NRC is looking for a Protection from Violence Project Managerย to join the Afghanistan mission. The role holder will implement the Protection from Violence project portfolio, providing technical oversight, strategic direction, planning and implementation, and quality assurance of NRCโs Protection from Violence projects in Afghanistanโs Western region.ย

What you will bring
- Project implementationย experience in a humanitarian/recovery context.
- Camp management expertise.
- Project cycle management experience.
- Complex and volatile context exposure.
- English and Dariย fluency, both written and verbal.
- West and North-West Afghanistan contextย exposure and knowledge, pertaining to displacement and humanitarian needs.
What makes this position attractive?
- The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is complex, protracted, and worsening. Following 40-years of constant war and a situation of increasing hunger; economic decline; and rising poverty levels, the country has faced intensified conflict; the worst drought in 27-years - with some areas subject to extreme flooding; the withdrawal of international forces/diplomatic presence; and the take-over of the country by the Taliban. The resulting political, social, and economic shocks continue to resound across the country with a deterioration of the humanitarian and protection situation.
- Afghanistan recently underwent a regime change in a short space of time. The current regime has limited resources and/or systems in place to provide basic services. In addition to this, internal displacement has taken place due to conflict, climate change, and the economic crisis currently experienced in the country. Afghanistan is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis with a risk of systemic collapse and human catastrophe.
- A commitment to Protection is at the core of NRCโs mission. In Afghanistan, NRC is running a protection programme focusing on the Protection of Civilians from situations of violence, Civilian Self-Protection, Site Management, and delivering specialised protection services (including protection case management and individual protection assistance).
- These activities are a continuation of the drought and mixed-displacement protection response for displaced population and host communities in displacement sites and urban areas. NRC is using Site Management methodologies to provide support to these sites, to which protection activities are embedded, seeking to support the displaced on their way towards self-reliance and durable solutions whilst also remaining ready to provide response to new displacement in the area.
- This is an opportunity to contribute to the protection and assistance of vulnerable and crisis-affected women, girls, boys, and men. NRC Afghanistan is one of the leading humanitarian response agencies (particularly for Afghans forced to flee), maintaining a presence of 12 offices and over 1,000 staff in 14 provinces across the country. NRC Afghanistan is the largest INGO in the country, at a programmatic, field coverage, and staff count level.

What we offer
- Herat, Afghanistan duty station.
- 12-month contract duration (renewable, subjecting to funding, performance, and requirements).
- 40% travel, approximately.
