Duties and ResponsibilitiesWorking under the supervision of the Associate Environmental Sustainability Officer, the selected intern, or interns, will support implementation of the Agencyโs Environmental Sustainability Policy, including strengthening environmental footprinting and information management, developing solutions advice and awareness raising materials and undertaking research to support projects and initiatives. Duties will include: โข Working under supervision, support the development and use of corporate tools, templates and other materials for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting on UNRWAโs primary environmental impacts: energy/greenhouse gas (GHG), waste and water, sustainable procurement and resource efficiency, and pollution prevention; โข Prepare / update related standard operating procedures to facilitate consistency in the collection, analysis and reporting of data; โข Support drafting of content for a wide range of in-house and external reporting obligations; โข Assist in knowledge management, including documenting UNRWAโs environmental improvement actions, quantifying environmental benefits where possible, and drafting case studies for selected actions; โข Under supervision, develop staff campaign materials that foster sustainable behaviours; โข Undertake guided research in support of Agency projects that seek to reduce UNRWAโs own environmental impacts, and / or improve the environmental sustainability of programmes, and the lives and livelihoods of Palestine refugees. โข Draft briefing notes, meeting records, presentations and other supporting documents, under the guidance of the position supervisor; โข Contribute to other environmental initiatives as directed by the position supervisor Qualifications/special skillsEducation โข Recent graduate with a master's degree, or currently enrolled in a graduate programme, in environmental sustainability management, environmental engineering, natural resource management, business/public administration, or a related subject that demonstrates interest and knowledge in environmental sustainability in a corporate or agency setting. Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, coursework or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Prior experience of relevant environmental activities, through paid employment, volunteering or academic work, will be highly regarded. LanguagesFluency in both English and Arabic is required, both orally and in writing. Additional InformationInterns are not financially remunerated by the UNRWA.
