Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) plays a key role in advancing European aviation in terms of performance, safety, and sustainability. This effort is marked by integrating research, innovation, and simulation to bridge the gap between research & development and practical application.
As a Senior Operational Project Expert, you will develop strategic recommendations for Air Traffic Management (ATM) areas, focusing on INO's Research & Innovation (R&I) engagement. This role is essential for shaping and aligning the R&I strategies of EUROCONTROL with the industry's goals. Furthermore, the senior operational project expert leads and contributes to R&I projects that explore new operational solutions in aviation and guides project teams in creating, designing, and validating innovative ATM concepts. This direct involvement in project leadership and strategic planning positions the Senior Operational Project Expert as a critical figure in guiding EUROCONTROL's efforts towards a more efficient, safe, and sustainable airspace.
Your role
Your role will be to:
- Provide senior technical expertise and strategic guidance in the development and implementation of R&I strategies for INO, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and their effective implementation at INO level through cross-team collaboration.
Required qualifications, experience & competencies
Completed university studies of 4 years in a relevant domain (e.g. Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.) or of 3 years plus 1 year relevant professional experience or professional training of an equivalent level (ATCO license). Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate. In addition to the above, a minimum of 10 years relevant professional experience dedicated to the execution and management of strategic initiatives within an Air Navigation Service Provider. Proficiency in understanding the European aviation landscape and ATM, encompassing regulatory frameworks, operational standards, and challenges and requirements of the industry. Experience in integrating operational insights with engineering practices to boost efficiency and safety in ATM. Experience in strategic planning and advice for the ATM sector, with a proven track record in developing and implementing strategic plans. Experience in large-scale projects within multicultural settings and cross-functional teams. Excellent stakeholder-management skills. Excellent technical drafting and presentation skills in English. The selected candidate will be required to become at least a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. This contract may be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract. The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post. Internal candidatesIf selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years. The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level. Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
