Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the French Language Unit of UN News Services Section I, which is part of the News & Content Branch of the News & Media Division of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The News Section produces daily news and feature stories, magazine programmes and special series and makes available live and recorded audio form meetings and events. Through these products UN News provides daily and weekly content in 9 languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Kiswahili, and Hindi). The incumbent will directly report to the Chief of French Language Unit. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: โข Provides specialized assistance to the producers at the preproduction and post-production stages of multimedia news production and delivery of information communications products and services related to UN News. โข Researches a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; researches and compiles printed sources of information, as well as video and audio excerpts originating from meetings, press releases, official documents, press conferences, studio interviews, field recordings and live coverage of events related to the work of the UN. โข Participates in the morning editorial meeting and the daily unit planning, suggests in-depth story ideas and proposes ideas for extending the reach of products. โข Requests and arranges interviews for the producers to conduct; carries out digital content production, editing of inserts, cuts, clips and other recorded components of programmes and publishing; and assists with all aspects of podcast production; identifies and selects appropriate and relevant excerpts of speeches and statements for inclusion in clips; coordinates translation/adaptation of scripts, the recording of narrations and the preparation of online graphics, etc. โข Assists in fact-checking and updating the web page, including drafting and editing of content. โข Assists in the production and editing of video projects; interviews UN officials and other main characters for inclusion in UN News' video outputs, which can include assisting with camera, checking scripts, editing visual and print materials, and suggesting questions. โข Assists with promotion activities and outreach to partners; carries out analytics and social media metrics for the news website and social media accounts, as required. โข Assists with the distribution of audio and video materials; ensures the management of audio/video archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audio/visual materials. โข Provides guidance to interns/volunteers, training and other logistical support. โข Performs other duties as assigned. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in audio and video production for broadcasters, web and social media is required. Experience in full range of production of multimedia features is required. Experience in digital content publishing, and incorporation of photos and graphics is required. Experience in recording, filming and editing audio and video material is desirable. Experience in editing with Adobe Premiere software is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
