5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, works to achieve three transformative results: โ€ข Ending unmet need for family planning, โ€ข Ending preventable maternal deaths, and โ€ข Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices. In 2025, UNFPA Tunisia marks 51 years of partnership and programming in the country. Over the decades, the programme has evolved and expanded in scope and ambition, supporting national efforts to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), respond to gender-based violence (GBV), empower adolescents and youth, and strengthen the use of data and evidence for policy and planning. As the office prepares for a new programme cycle, UNFPA Tunisia is committed to deepening its impact through inclusive, sustainable, and innovative approachesโ€”working hand-in-hand with national and local stakeholders, civil society, youth networks, and development partners.

ContextThis volunteer assignment is supported by the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia as part of an initiative in partnership with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program to enhance youth inclusion, with a focus on the inclusion of young people with disabilities (2024-2026). Therefore, applications from young people with disabilities who meet the required qualifications are strongly encouraged. UNFPA Tunisia is preparing for a new program cycle while continuing to expand its portfolio in key areas such as SRH, GBV, youth empowerment, and evidence generation. To support this expansion, the UNFPA Tunisia country office is seeking a motivated national youth UN Volunteer to contribute to the effective implementation of youth and SRH-related activities. The assignment will primarily focus on administrative and logistical support for events, workshops, and missions, as well as procurement, travel, and consultant coordination. A smaller portion of the role (less than 25%) will involve basic programmatic support related to youth and adolescent SRHR activities.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Youth Programme Consultant and the SRH Programme Analyst, and in collaboration with the Operations team, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Event and Workshop Support โ€ข Help identify and book appropriate venues for youth- and SRH-related events and workshops. โ€ข Coordinate with service providers (e.g. catering, interpretation, printing). โ€ข Prepare materials (agendas, lists of participants, printed content, visibility materials). โ€ข Provide on-site logistical support during events and workshops. โ€ข Organize attendance sheets and feedback forms, and support follow-up actions. โ€ข Submit service provider invoices via internal systems (e.g. AODocs). 2. Travel Support โ€ข Assist with travel planning and documentation (travel requests, profiles, claims). โ€ข Coordinate with travelers and admin assistant to ensure compliance with travel rules. โ€ข Help follow up to ensure timely submission of post-travel documents and claims. 3. Procurement and Supplier Coordination โ€ข Help draft purchase requests and purchase orders in QUANTUM. โ€ข Collect required documentation from suppliers (quotes, invoices, tax certificates). โ€ข Track and report on delivery of goods and services. 4. Consultant and Contractual Support โ€ข Assist in preparing documentation for hiring of consultants. โ€ข Support contract follow-up and ensure deliverables are received and processed. โ€ข Help with payment processing by verifying documentation. 5. Light Programmatic Support (less than 25%) โ€ข Assist with youth and SRH program activities, such as organizing field visits or compiling simple data. โ€ข Help prepare presentations, notes, or basic reports related to SRHR and youth participation.
