Mission and objectivesUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
ContextThrough its humanitarian action, UN Women aims to address the erosion of rights and livelihoods of the most vulnerable women and girls affected by crisis, and the overall threat posed to the achievement of gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in all their diversity. As articulated in its Humanitarian Strategy 2022-2025, UN Women takes a two-pronged approach to advance the agenda: (i) strengthen accountability towards gender commitments in coordination and implementation of UN-led humanitarian and refugee responses; and (ii) strengthen comprehensive protection and livelihoods support to crisis-affected women and girls. In concurrence with two approaches, UN Women amplifies womenยดs voices and leadership in humanitarian and crisis response and recovery. Through its humanitarian efforts, UN Women has contributed to addressing the needs of crisis-affected women and girls directly and through the humanitarian coordination system, which has been further accelerated since it acquired a full membership of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) in 2022. The UN Women Humanitarian Section is responsible for standardizing and strengthening the UN systemโs gender accountability in humanitarian response and UN Womenโs humanitarian action in sudden onset and protracted crises, by building capacities of and providing technical support to its Regional and Country Offices and other humanitarian actors, including through humanitarian coordination mechanisms, as well as scaling up strategic partnerships with the rest of the UN system, government institutions and local civil society organizations, especially local womenโs organizations. Under the supervision of Deputy Chief of Humanitarian Action, the Programme Assistant will support the Section in the areas of knowledge management, policy and procedure development, inter-agency coordination, strategic partnership management, and global programme/project management
Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Humanitarian Action, the Programme Assistant will: โช Facilitate knowledge development, management, and dissemination/communication for the Humanitarian Section. โช Assists with the provision of information, analysis and policy support for the attention of senior management on designated country and thematic files for the section. โช Undertakes clearance and quality control of documents prepared for the senior management of the section, including background notes, meeting notes, letters, speeches etc. โช Prepares, in coordination with the Team Leader, briefings, talking points, reports, weekly meeting minutes and updates.โช Assists senior official with briefing notes, presentations, background papers and talking points. โช Prepare the humanitarian-relevant contents for the internal resource centre (SharePoint) and the external-facing website and ensure wide knowledge sharing internally and externally. โช Support organizing webinars and events to facilitate knowledge sharing internally and externally, including through collaboration with other UN agencies and humanitarian actors. โช Monitor progress on programme/project activities at the country level, results and indicators and contribute to donor reports and UN Womenโs global reporting on humanitarian portfolio (EDAR, Humanitarian Section Annual Report and others). โช Support team in drafting corporate annual reports including conducting surveys, collecting data, developing case studies and entering results in the UN Women result management system. โช Support the consultation process of implementing countries and identification of promising practices and lessons learned and provide substantive inputs to the design and planning of the new project/programme development in the section. โช Identify opportunities for capacity building of implementing Country Offices and coordinate and facilitate technical support and capacity development training as needed.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteerโs service. This amount is reset every 12-month cycle.
