POSITION TITLE: Private Sector Sustainability Lead LOCATION: Sulawesi, Indonesia REPORTS TO: Project Director GENERAL: Winrock International is a nonprofit organization that works with people in the United States and around the world to empower the disadvantaged, increase economic opportunity, and sustain natural resources. In Indonesia, Winrock possesses a long work history with prior programming in human rights, agricultural development, child labor and domestic violence prevention, climate mitigation and adaptation, and clean energy. POSITION SUMMARY Winrock International is seeking a full time Private Sector Sustainability Lead for a four-year, U.S. Department of Labor-funded project to promote fair and reliable critical mineral supply chains in Indonesia free of child labor and forced labor. The project will focus on 1) improved regulatory frameworks and their enforcement; 2) capacity building for monitoring, identification, enforcement, and remediation; and 3) research to understand the drivers, risk factors and actors affected by forced labor in critical minerals in Indonesia. The Private Sector Sustainability Lead will be responsible for developing and operationalizing strategy for the engagement and partnerships with private sector companies, industry associations, and relevant business networks in Indonesia to advance responsible business practices in nickel mining and refining, aligned with U.S. and global regulatory requirements. The position will focus on improving labor compliance and transparency, strengthening supply-chain traceability, and supporting due diligence and remedies. KEY TASKS: Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Private Sector Strategy and Engagement Develop and implement an overarching private sector sustainability and engagement strategy aligned with project objectives and applicable U.S. and international regulations. Engage with companies and industry associations to advance project interests, increase transparency around labor and enhance risk management and grievance mechanisms in Indonesia. Conduct private sector and industry mapping to identify priority companies, industry associations, and supply-chain actors relevant to labor compliance, traceability, and transparency to promote fair and reliable critical mineral supply chains in Indonesia. Build and manage strategic relationships with Indonesian and multinational companies, industry associations, and chambers of commerce operating in targeted sectors. Labor Compliance and Transparency Support private sector partners to improve compliance with labor standards, including responsible recruitment, fair labor practices, and international human rights principles. Promote and support the adoption of supply-chain transparency, traceability, and risk-mapping tools, including systems related to labor risk, sourcing practices, and supplier oversight. Provide technical guidance to companies and associations on due diligence frameworks, ethical sourcing expectations, and emerging regulatory requirements affecting U.S. and global markets. Partnership Development and Implementation Identify, vet, structure, and manage public-private partnerships that contribute to project outcomes. Support the development, negotiation, and management of collaboration agreements, MOUs, or partnership frameworks with private sector partners. Coordinate closely across project teams to ensure private sector engagement is integrated across relevant activities and workstreams. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing Design and deliver capacity-building activities for private sector stakeholders, industry associations, project partners and staff related to human rights due diligence and fair labor. Facilitate dialogue, workshops, and learning events to share best practices, lessons learned, and innovative approaches to responsible business conduct. Monitoring, Learning, and Reporting Track and document private sector engagement activities, outcomes, and lessons learned for project monitoring, reporting, and adaptive management. Contribute to reports, presentations, and knowledge products. Identify risks related to private sector engagement and propose mitigation measures in coordination with project leadership. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Private Sector Sustainability Lead will report to the Project Director. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelorโs or Masterโs degree in business administration, economics, international development, law, sustainability, supply-chain management, or a related field. Work Experience: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience working with private sector companies, industry associations, or business networks in Indonesia or Southeast Asia. Demonstrated experience in private sector partnership development, sustainability initiatives, or responsible business conduct within development or commercial contexts. Experience supporting or advising companies on labor standards, supply-chain transparency, due diligence, or risk management. Prior experience working on US-funded or other donor-funded projects is strongly preferred. Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of private sector operations and incentives, particularly in relation to sustainability and compliance. Knowledge of international labor standards, responsible business conduct frameworks, and supply-chain due diligence concepts. Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with senior private sector stakeholders, industry associations, and government counterparts. Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and partnership management skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite, word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases) are required. Oral and written fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia required.
