The GGGI Papua New Guinea (PNG) Country Program, hosted at the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), is scaling up its activities to provide advisory and implementation support to PNG in climate resilience and green growth initiatives. This is done in close cooperation with CCDA and other relevant national and international stakeholders. GGGI is inviting applications for internship positions within the PNG Country Program under the Climate Finance Initiative for Resilience and a Sustainable Transition (FIRST) Project funded by the Australiaโ€™s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGIโ€™s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

The GGGI PNG program is seeking a talented and motivated individual to support the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives under the Climate FIRST Project. The intern will assist with technical research, project pipeline development, stakeholder mapping, and data analysis to support investment planning and project preparation.

The Energy Investment Intern will work under the guidance of the Project Manager and will work closely with Climate Investment Advisors and other team members to support the identification of clean energy investment opportunities, contribute to the development of energy-related project proposals, and assist in analyzing technical and policy data to shape bankable, low-carbon project concepts at both national and provincial levels.

The assignment will include the following but not limited to:

Assisting capacity development assessment to enhance investment in renewable energy through shifting of policy frameworks. Support the development of energy-focused investment concepts by assist in identifying renewable energy, energy access, and energy efficiency opportunities in alignment with national energy strategies and the Climate Change (Management) Act 2015 (as amended). Conduct research and data collection: Assist in gathering, organizing, and analyzing energy-related data, including market assessments, energy access gaps, policy frameworks, and infrastructure readiness to inform proposal development. Assist in proposal preparation and pipeline development: Support the drafting of concept notes and technical inputs for investment proposals, including review of feasibility assessments, institutional arrangements, and potential financing models. Support stakeholder mapping and coordination: Contribute to mapping key stakeholders across the energy sector and help coordinate engagement efforts with relevant government agencies, private sector entities, and development partners. Maintain organized documentation and contribute to reporting: Ensure all energy investment files and analysis are up to date and well-structured. Assist in preparing summaries and inputs for donor and internal reports related to clean energy workstreams.

The intern will work under the supervision of the Climate FIRST project manager. The internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, international environment, working on critical issues related to sustainable development. The intern will have the chance to develop technical skills, understand the functioning of an international organization, and gain insights into the operational aspects of GGGI.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

Be enrolled in a Bachelorโ€™s (final year), Masterโ€™s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months. Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Instituteโ€™s work. Possess an excellent command in English. Applicants must be available to commit to the full duration of the internship as agreed upon with the supervising staff. Candidates must be either Papua New Guinea (PNG) nationals or foreign nationals with a valid work permit to work in PNG.

QUALIFICATION
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s program in energy engineering, renewable energy, environmental science, sustainable development, or a related field from a recognized institution. Knowledge of renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, or low-carbon technologies is desirable. Familiarity with energy finance, clean energy policies, or climate change mitigation strategies is an asset. Strong analytical and research skills with proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proven analytical and report writing skills are advantageous

SELECTION PROCESS
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work. Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

TEMRS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least four months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin their internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.
