Project Name: Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE)
Country of Assignment: Home-based, with occasional travel nationally (Bangkok and surroundings)
Duration of Assignment: Tentative 21 July 2025 to 30 September 2025 for maximum of 25 working days
The UNODC Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE) works to strengthen regional and global efforts against wildlife and forest crime, illegal fishing, mining, and trafficking in precious metals and waste. It supports environmental law enforcement networks and helps treat these crimes as serious transnational organized crime. In regions lacking enforcement capacity, UNODC provides technical assistance to build investigative skills and infrastructure. To address a major gap in understanding gender dynamics in wildlife crime, UNODCโthrough a new partnership with the Government of Canadaโis launching research focused on Southeast Asia, specifically Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Field researchers will examine the roles of women in both facilitating and preventing illegal wildlife trade. Findings will inform more inclusive and effective crime prevention strategies. Under the supervision of UNODC experts, the researchers will collect and analyze field data in Thailand, produce reports, and collaborate with the teamโs gender specialist to support future programming.
