Plan International is a rights-based development and humanitarian organisation working for better lives for all children. We are independent of government and have no political or religious affiliation. Our purpose is to strive for a just world that advances childrenโs rights and equality for girls.
We have been building powerful partnerships for children for more than 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries. Our global strategy has a specific focus on girls, as they are often the most marginalised and most often left behind. We have committed ourselves to the ambitious target of reaching 100 million girls over 5 years, to ensure they can learn, lead, decide and thrive. This is our contribution to reaching the sustainable development goals, and in particular the goals on gender equality.
Our organisation is transforming itself to meet this enormous challenge everywhere we work. Plan International Pacific is composed of three countries namely: Fiji, Solomon Islands and PNG. Suva, Fiji is its Pacific Hub. The Girls Tekem Akson lo Climate Change (GTACC) aims to support adolescent girls and young people from Solomon Islands to exhibit leadership, influence climate change decision-making at the community, provincial, and national levels โ and explore opportunities to advance this at the Pacific, regional, and global level. GTACCโs activities will aim to improve the adaptive capacity, and reduce the vulnerability of individuals, their communities, and the wide-ranging impacts of climate change.
These aims will be achieved through a series of activities for three (3) specific objectives:
Enable adolescent girls and young people to take an active role in identifying, driving, and advocating for their agendas on climate action. Improved access for adolescent girls and young people to better economic knowledge, skills, and opportunities to support themselves and drive local climate action. Ensure active engagement for adolescent girls, young people, and climate action leaders in decision-making processes within communities, organizations, and government; who are connected to regional and international climate youth activist networks.
