ContextWHO is to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. Enhancing the health and well-being of a billion more people by: • addressing social determinants of health • promoting intersectoral approaches • prioritizing health in all policies. The UN Volunteer will engage with the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) Climate Change, Health, and Environment team. This role focuses on advancing food safety as a public health imperative and assisting countries in mitigating food safety risks along the food chain. This assignment is integral to supporting the WHO's mission to ensure that all individuals, everywhere, have access to safe and nutritious food, thereby alleviating the burden of foodborne diseases.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Dr Samar Elfeky, Regional Adviser, Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health, A/Regional Adviser for Environmental Health; the UN Volunteer will contribute to the food safety program through a range of activities, including: - Contribute to the planning and delivery of webinar sessions and workshops aimed at food safety professionals, scheduled for 2025-2026. - Assist in developing tailored educational materials and implementing targeted outreach programmes. - Support the assessment of national foodborne disease surveillance and food monitoring capacities for priority countries in the EMR. - Support the preparations for the second meeting of the WHO Alliance for food safety. - Participate in the synthesis and collection of data for technical documents, including piloting of the WHO Behavioural Insights framework. - Assist in preparing for the second meeting of the WHO Alliance for Food Safety.
