5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesMorobe Development Foundation Inc. is a leading Internationally recognised NGO based in Lae Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. It has the vision to help young people reach their full potential by utilizing their hidden talents in community development initiatives so they can realize their potential and become role model in the community. MDF was established to address a broader and more diverse range of objectives and work through the use of dance, music, and drama, MDF’s primary aim is to ensure that women participate equally in decision-making in any project undertaken, including projects related to Ending Violence against Women and promoting Human Rights to support the Government and the Sustainable Development Goals. MDF, in collaboration with Online Volunteers, engaged through the UNV's Unified Volunteer Platform (UVP), has also undertaken various scientific research studies related to the environment - forest cover loss, land use land cover change, the influence of various parameters on surface waters, and coastal shoreline turtle habitat loss. These projects included the participation of various experts and researchers from diverse fields across various countries across the globe - ranging from marine biology, biodiversity conservation, PNG community management, remote sensing, and land use policy among various others. MDF is managed by a management committee, which is made up of the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Secretary, the Treasurer, the Project Coordinator, Community Development Officer, and a male and female member of the foundation, and ensures that women participate equally in decision making. We at MDF assert that we have the required skill sets, knowledge, established international network, and the necessary foundational work to undertake projects successfully.

ContextMDF is concerned about the development of the community. Food is a very important commodity for the residents. Through this project, we hope to clarify the factors affecting the food crisis for the reference of the local administration. This project aims to explore the various elements that impact the success and reception of these initiatives. This research is particularly timely and vital, considering the increasing challenges posed by global food insecurity and the essential role food aid plays in mitigating these issues. The objective is to develop a comprehensive research proposal that delves into the multifaceted aspects of food aid programs, including policy frameworks, implementation strategies, and feedback from the communities served. This assignment aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2): Zero Hunger. This proposal will contribute to a deeper understanding of how food aid can be optimized to better serve those in need. To that end, we are seeking support from Online Volunteers who have expertise in research especially in food security and aid.

Task DescriptionWe are seeking three Online Volunteers, each with a specific focus area: 1. Policy and Program Analysis: Conduct a thorough analysis of existing food assistance policies and programmes, identifying key factors that influence their design and implementation. This volunteer will also assess the alignment of these programmes with international guidelines and standards. 2. Field Data and Case Study: Gather and analyse field data and case studies on the effectiveness and societal impact of online food aid programmes. The task includes identifying success stories, challenges faced, and feedback from beneficiaries. 3. Research Proposal Writing: Based on the results from the volunteers mentioned above, this role requires synthesising the research and analyses conducted by the team into a cohesive and comprehensive research proposal. This volunteer will ensure that the proposal is well-structured and clearly written, and it presents a compelling argument for further research into food aid programmes. 4. Document Review and Proofreading: Review the documents of the three volunteers mentioned above for any issues related to grammar and expression.
