DRC Uganda is currently looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as Drivers (03).
The overall purpose of the role:
To drive DRC vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with DRC policy and national safety rules and regulations. The driver will be responsible for the vehicle to which they are assigned and the completion of log books and fuel records, under the supervision of the Supply Chain Assistant – Logistics.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
DRC transport
Drive safely DRC staff and visitors. Drive defensively and respect the National traffic rules and DRC speed limits. Comply with DRC security rules Ensure correct loading and offloading of the vehicle according to proper load capacity and distribution Ensure security of the vehicle and keys, also when parked, making sure windows and doors are locked. Keep informed of security on the expected itinerary and decide whether to take a road in collaboration with the Base Manager. Always inform the Office team of departure, intended destination, and remain in contact throughout the journey, upon arrival at the destination, and return. Maintain confidentiality of internal information on staff movement unless authorized to do so. Ensure that non-DRC staff are NOT allowed to use DRC vehicles without prior approval from the Area Manager/Head of OfficeVehicle management/ Safety
Ensure that all the safety equipment (all safety belts, one binder with emergency contact and discharge of responsibility forms, a first aid box, spare wheel, and fire extinguisher) is in place and working well. Ensure that no driving takes place unless EVERY person in the car is using his/her safety belt. Keep the vehicles clean, refuelled, and ensure they are properly maintained, regularly serviced, and repaired according to the correct procedures. Ensure proper working of the vehicle before driving and report any irregularities or accidents immediately to the supervisor. Keep records for mileage driven/fuel added and maintain the vehicle logbook Check the road license and other certificates in the vehicle and notify the supervisor in time for renewal of documents if due to expire. Always maintain a valid driving licence.About you
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have 3-5 years of professional driving. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
A minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (UACE). Possession of a valid, full driving license with a clean record Ability to multitask and work calmly under pressure is essential. A certificate in Defensive driving from an established driving school/firm. A certificate in automobile mechanics. Prior experience as a driver in an international NGO, UN agency, or private companyIn this position, you are expected to demonstrate DRC’s five core competencies:
