Work LocationNairobi Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for Human Settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. As the United Nations focal point on human settlements, UN-Habitat will lead advocacy efforts to raise awareness of sustainable urbanization issues; provide evidence-based policy advice; build capacities; develop tools, norms and standards based on best practices; work on demonstration projects and provide assistance to national Governments, local authorities and other public institutions responsible for urban issues. The Donor Relations and Strategic Resource Partnerships unit, which reports to the Head of the External relations and Partnerships Branch is responsible for coordinating UN-Habitat's strategic and operational work on resource mobilization. This includes support for a harmonized decentralized fund-raising model, providing tools to help manage and report on non-earmarked income and earmarked contributions, undertaking and supporting donor consultations as well as other activities related to strengthening relations with donors and enhancing predictable funding for UN-Habitat's work on sustainable urbanization. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Donor Relations & Strategic Resource Partnerships Unit, the associate will perform the following duties: II. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES The purpose of this request is to hire a Donor Engagement Associate to work with the Donor Relations and Strategic Resource Partnerships unit to improve donor experience and development by playing a pivotal role in enhancing donor relationships through evidence-based insights and tailored engagement strategies. RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate and document internal and external consultations for the development of the Resource Mobilization Strategy, including stakeholder mapping, feedback analysis, and consolidation of inputs. 2. Contribute to the drafting, review, and finalization of the Resource Mobilization Strategy, integrating donor feedback and ensuring alignment with UN-Habitatโ€™s strategic objectives. 3. Plan, coordinate, and support the execution of structured donor dialogue events (e.g., donor breakfasts, thematic roundtables, and one-on-one donor consultations) in line with engagement objectives. 4. Conduct strategic donor research to identify emerging and priority donors, including governments, foundations, philanthropies, and private sector entities. 5. Track key donor engagement activities and funding proposal submissions, record and manage related engagement data in Engagement Compass on a monthly basis and follow up on the actions identified from the engagement activities. 6. Prepare and disseminate donor intelligence products, including the funding digest and acquisition reports to Member States. 7. Develop donor-specific communication materials such as briefing notes, talking points, annotated slide decks, and engagement backgrounders for high-level meetings. 8. Lead the production of the Urban Impact newsletter and other donor communication materials, ensuring strategic donor visibility and the integration of engagement highlights. 9. Deliver a comprehensive performance report at the end of the contract period, summarizing donor trends, engagement impact, and recommendations for future resource mobilization planning. Qualifications/special skillsA degree or equivalent in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations is required. Minimum 2 years of office experience in a donor relations, partnerships, fundraising, or communications related role is required. Experience in a UN or international development context is desirable Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement, strategy drafting, and information product development are desirable. Proficiency in the use CSS and Html is an added advantage is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
