DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and partners are developing the Global Ecosystems Atlas (the Atlas) - a trusted, open, co-created public good that consolidates ecosystem maps and AI-enabled layers. It will provide consistent, comparable information on ecosystem location, condition, and change.

Phase 1 (2025-2026) requires a steady flow of high-quality content to explain the Atlas, highlight progress and partnerships, and grow target audiences across digital channels. Under the supervision of the Atlas Content & Multi-Platform Communications Consultant, the consultancy will deliver hands-on content production (social media, graphics, blogs, newsletters, website) aligned with Atlas branding and messaging. Responsibilities include supporting a content calendar, producing/editing materials, and ensuring analytics-driven optimisation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

CONTENT CALENDAR (month 1)
12-month calendar with themes, formats, owners, deadlines, and workflow.

IDEA PIPELINE (ongoing)
10-12 pitches and 4 research dossiers per month.

INTERVIEWS (quarterly targets)
24-32 interviews in 12 months (~2-3/month) with staff, focal points and partners. Provide transcripts within 5 days, secure consent, store in repository.

BLOGS - 24 (2/month)
400-500 words, pull-quote, SEO title/description, hero image + alt text.

NEWSLETTERS - 12 (monthly)
Modular format (lead, highlights, CTA), with A/B testing.

SOCIAL - 100 posts
60 LinkedIn (12 long-form), 40 Twitter; each with UTM, alt text, partner tags.

INFOGRAPHICS/ANIMATIONS - 12 (monthly)
=30s, source notes, plain-language alt text.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHTS - 12 (monthly)
Spotlight + 2 quote variants, logo lockup, repost copy; partner sign-off required.

WEBINAR/EVENT PACKS - 4
Delivered =10 days pre-event: run-of-show, slides, briefs, promo kit, registration copy, wrap template.

MEASUREMENT/REPORTING
Monthly dashboards (reach, engagement, sentiment, top content, recommendations).
Content impact report with Phase-2 roadmap and reusable playbook.

CAMPAIGN SUPPORT
Story mining, interview guides, landing-page copy, blogs, threads, graphics, partner packs for campaigns.

DELIVERABLES:

CONTENT PLANNING
- Maintain Atlas calendar across web/blog, newsletter, social, aligned with roadmap and milestones.

CONTENT PRODUCTION
- 24 blogs, 12 spotlights, 12 newsletters, 100 social posts, 4 webinar packs, 12 graphics.

SUPPORTING ASSETS
- Infographics, data visuals, animations, event packs, all brand- and accessibility-compliant.

CONTENT SOURCING
- Documented pipeline for gathering with partners/teams; manage approvals, metadata, and repository with taxonomy and reuse guidance.

PUBLICATION
Publish to web/CMS and social; apply SEO (keywords, titles, meta descriptions), UTMs, link architecture; set newsletter templates and cadence.

MEASUREMENT
- Track reach, engagement, CTR, sign-ups; monthly dashboards with insights; adjust content based on data and feedback.

REPORTING
- Quarterly updates and final outputs/impact summary.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
University degree in communications, journalism, media/graphic design, environmental communications or related field.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years' experience producing digital content for international audiences; portfolio demonstrating excellent writing/editing and social content creation; experience creating infographics/short-form video; experience with scientific or environmental topics preferred.
Other requirements
Strong editorial judgement and plain-language writing; social copywriting, threads and carousels; basic motion/graphic design, video editing and data visualisation (or ability to brief/manage designers); CMS/SEO fundamentals; newsletter tooling and list hygiene; analytics and optimisation; stakeholder coordination; familiarity with biodiversity/GBF, Earth observation and partner-centric storytelling.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.
