5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNICRI (United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute) is a specialized UN entity established in 1968. Its mission is to assist intergovernmental, governmental, and non-governmental organizations in improving crime prevention and criminal justice policies. UNICRI emphasizes action-oriented analysis and integrated technical assistance, with current priorities including justice reform, emerging crimes, and security governance.

ContextThe Online Volunteer will support UNICRI in implementing its initiative โ€œAssessing and Addressing the Nexus between Organized Crime and Terrorism in Africaโ€, which aims to enhance understanding of how crime and terrorism intersect across diverse African contexts. The project seeks to empower local, national and regional stakeholders to prevent, investigate and prosecute the convergence of terrorism and crime through research, capacity-building and awareness-raising activities. The Online Volunteer will play a key role in creating impactful visual and video assets to amplify the dissemination of the key findings of UNICRIโ€™s research. Working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO) and the Programme Management Officer, the volunteer will support the translation of research findings into clear, accessible and context-sensitive communication materials, tailored to beneficiariesโ€™ needs, languages and priorities. This will include contributing to social media content, as well as the development of visual and video products, stories and infographics.

Task DescriptionContent planning and concept development: review UNICRI research findings; define priorities, target audiences, languages and cultural considerations; and develop content outlines for visual and multimedia products. Development of visual and multimedia assets: produce infographics, social media visuals, short video storyboards and visual elements for community outreach materials.
