5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) operates in around 170 countries, focusing on eradicating poverty and reducing inequality and exclusion. It supports countries in developing policies, enhancing leadership and partnership skills, and building institutional capacities to foster sustainable development. UNDP implements various projects, providing technical, operational, and management assistance through methodologies, specialized knowledge, and a broad international network of cooperation. In Brazil, UNDP aligns its services with the countryโ€™s dynamic needs, collaborating with the government, international financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society to promote human development and poverty reduction. As countries face interconnected challenges such as economic stagnation and environmental crises, UNDP aims to create integrated responses to these issues and serves as a catalyst for collective action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its services include eligibility assessments, project formulation and implementation, capacity development, policy advice, advocacy, technical assistance, training, and knowledge management. The UNDP Country Office in Brazil partners with public and private institutions and civil society to foster a more sustainable and inclusive society by enhancing governance, reducing poverty and inequality, and addressing climate change and biodiversity. Its program portfolio consists of three interrelated work streams: โ€ข Inclusive Socio-economic Development: Focused on poverty reduction, social policies, public-private partnerships, and inclusive markets. โ€ข Environmentally Sustainable Development: Emphasizing nature-based solutions, climate change, energy efficiency, and sustainable production. โ€ข Governance and Justice for Development: Concentrating on violence prevention, justice, transparency, anti-corruption, human rights, and local capacity development.

ContextThe task involves developing a creative, engaging layout/template package for UNDP Brazilโ€™s Human Resources Unit, to be used in various thematic communication channels (i.e. emails) for its internal audience (UNDP employees within the country office), and in accordance with UNDPโ€™s People for 2030 Strategy and its visual identity. The most common HR themes communicated to UNDP Brazil personnel includes: i) learning and development; ii) career management; iii) health and wellbeing; iv) finance/payroll; v) recruitment and selection; vi) contract management (absences, performance, benefits/entitlements, onboarding/offboarding); vii) safety and security; viii) surveys; ix) teambuilding; x) general announcements. This material will be used regularly by the HR team to communicate HR-related material in a clear, practical, and accessible way. The layout should allow for the insertion and/or editing of links, photos, images, text, columns, and other visual and information components. The contributions of the Online Volunteer will directly support UNDP Brazil HR Unitโ€™s efforts to modernise its visual identity and standardise communication layout to increase interest in HR-related content, facilitate understanding, and amplify UNDP Brazilโ€™s employee engagement.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for one Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of HR Assistant, will produce graphic designs layouts, leading to a new visual identity of UNDP Brazilโ€™s Human Resources Unit. In particular, the Online Volunteer is requested to: - Collect information on document/material background such as target audience, design style, branding guidelines, etc; - Create draft designs based on requirements and discuss with focal point; - Develop the designs and templates according to agreed requirements. The designs/layouts should follow our corporate design guidelines which will be shared with the Online Volunteer in advance.
