Project Context and Scope
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants in the frameworks of the IOM Strategic Plan 2024-2028โ€™s three strategic objectives: Saving lives and protecting people on the move; Driving solutions to displacement; and Facilitating pathways for regular migration. ย  Since 1994, the IOM Country Office in Albania has supported the government and partners in managing migration challenges such as irregular migration, human trafficking, and displacement. The office promotes safe and orderly migration and aligns with Albaniaโ€™s migration governance and EU integration efforts. The project aims to ensure that the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MoEFA) and the National Agency for Diaspora (AKD) have improved resources, knowledge, and skills for implementing diaspora engagement policies, in line with the Global Compact on Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration (GCM), theย Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its Goals/, as well as Albaniaโ€™s national policies and priorities including theย EU accession process.
