THE OPPORTUNITY

Plan International Ghana is seeking to recruit a dynamic and creative Communications Officer to support the implementation of the Automotive Service Excellence and Youth Empowerment Project. The role will lead project-level communications to enhance visibility, credibility, and impact, while supporting influencing, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement objectives.

ABOUT YOU

The Communications Officer is responsible for designing and implementing effective communication strategies that promote project objectives, innovations, and outcomes within the automotive TVET and youth empowerment space. The role supports both internal and external communications, media engagement, content creation, and brand alignment, ensuring that project messages are consistent, compelling, and aligned with Plan International standards.

Working closely with the Project Manager, project teams, and the Country Office Communications function, the Communications Officer will translate technical project work into accessible, ethical, and high-quality communication products that strengthen awareness, trust, and stakeholder engagement.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Communications Officer will be responsible for the following: Development and implementation of project communication plans Media engagement, press liaison, and visibility support Content creation, storytelling, and multimedia production Internal communications and coordination with country communications teams Branding, visibility, and compliance with Plan International guidelines Media monitoring, analysis, and reporting Support to influencing, advocacy, and policy communication initiatives Capacity-building support in communication and media engagement

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Education and Experience

Bachelorโ€™s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, or a related field 2โ€“4 yearsโ€™ professional experience in communications, journalism, or media roles, preferably within the non-profit, development, or automotive sector Experience supporting communications for donor-funded or multi-stakeholder projects is an advantage

Technical Skills

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English Proven experience in multimedia content production (photography, videography, video and photo editing) Experience managing organisational social media platforms and using analytics tools Ability to produce IEC materials, case studies, human-interest stories, and media products Soft Skills Excellent communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines High ethical judgement, particularly when working with vulnerable populations Creativity, adaptability, and initiative in fast-paced environments Strong alignment with child rights, gender equality, and safeguarding principles

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

The role operates within a typical office environment and requires regular field engagement with project partners, TVET institutions, and communities. Travel of approximately 30% is required within the Programme Impact and Influencing Area.
