COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

The Communications Officer plays a key role in delivering Save the Childrenโ€™s voice and visibility in Vanuatu. Working closely with programme, advocacy, and partnership teams, the role is responsible for capturing and amplifying childrenโ€™s voices, producing high-quality communications materials, and supporting media and digital engagement. Through ethical storytelling, strong brand compliance, and effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders, the Communications Officer helps ensure Save the Childrenโ€™s work and impact are clearly communicated to the public, partners, and donors.

Where you come in:

Based in Port Vila, you will play a hands-on role in delivering Save the Children Vanuatuโ€™s communications and media activities. You will work with field teams to capture stories, images, and content from across programmes, support social media and media engagement, and ensure communications materials meet organisational and donor requirements. Your work will help ensure childrenโ€™s voices are heard and that Save the Childrenโ€™s impact is clearly communicated to the public, partners, and donors.

You will make an impact by:

Amplifying childrenโ€™s voices and experiences through ethical, high-quality storytelling that reflects childrenโ€™s perspectives and supports positive change for children in Vanuatu. Delivering compelling communications and media content including stories, photos, videos, social media, and publications that clearly communicate the impact of Save the Childrenโ€™s programmes. Supporting advocacy and public engagement efforts by providing timely, accurate, and well-crafted communications products aligned with policy, influencing, and campaign priorities. Ensuring strong visibility and brand compliance across communications materials, meeting Save the Children and donor requirements and maintaining consistent, professional messaging. Working collaboratively with programme teams and partners to capture field-based content and translate complex programme work into accessible messages for public, partner, and donor audiences. Promoting safe and meaningful child participation in communications, ensuring childrenโ€™s involvement is ethical, respectful, and aligned with safeguarding and consent standards.

Health, Safety & Child Safeguarding

Follow safety guidelines and report risks or incidents. Promote a child-safe environment and uphold safeguarding policies. Act in childrenโ€™s best interests and maintain professional boundaries. Report any concerns regarding child safety through proper channels.

This role requires:

Proven experience in communications, media, or public engagement within government, civil society, or international development contexts. Strong skills in developing communications content including stories, photos, social media, publications, or multimedia materials for diverse audiences. Ability to work collaboratively with programme teams and external partners, translating programme information into clear, engaging, and accurate messages. Experience supporting media engagement and digital platforms, including social media content planning and regular updates. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and follow approval processes. Fluency in English and Bislama, with strong cultural awareness and sensitivity when working across Vanuatuโ€™s diverse communities. Commitment to Save the Childrenโ€™s values, including childrenโ€™s rights, ethical storytelling, localisation, and child safeguarding principles.
