Work LocationESCWA/Remote Expected duration2 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and Chief of the ESCWA External Relations and Communication Section (ERC), the Communications Assistant (Illustrator) is required to perform the below functions in close coordination with the Public Information Assistants at the unit and the Team for Persons with Disabilities at the Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development Cluster Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Create digital illustrations of persons with disability, providing representations of several types of disabilities; 2. Produce animations and motion graphics of these illustrations when required; 3. Conduct the appropriate research and investigation to properly represent persons with disability from across the region, while maintaining gender equality, age and race diversity, among other criteria; 4. Abide by the UN guidelines for branding, inclusion and accessibility and other applicable reference material; 5. Assist in producing graphics for information spots, wrap-up videos, when required; 6. Assist the photographer in the production and post-production of visual assets; 7. Assist in the design and animation (motion graphics) of other videos, when required; 8. Brainstorm with colleagues on a regular basis for new ideas, and collaborate with the team on their execution; 9. Assist in the creation of visual content for social media; 10. Work with the Public Information Assistants on other digital design-related work; 11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of ERC. Qualifications/special skillsBachelor’s Degree in media, art communication, digital design, graphic design, or other related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 5 years of experience in illustration, drawing, digital and motion graphics design is required. Ability to provide good storytelling through photo essays is desirable. Experience in an international setting is desirable. LanguagesLanguages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Fluency in French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
