Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyzes, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and the science and technology community. Within UNDRR’s new Strategic Framework for 2022-2025, disability inclusive disaster risk reduction activities are not only mainstreamed throughout strategic objectives but also included for the first time as dedicated results and deliverables in support of disability inclusive disaster risk reduction. With this background and to provide reasonable accommodation to UNDRR staff member with visual disability, UNDRR ROAP seeks an individual contractor to assist with programme-related activities under the disability agenda in Asia and the Pacific as well as at the global level. This position also provides full support to a staff member with a visual disability in carrying out work-related activities ensuring equal access and leveraging technology to enhance accessibility of the environment and of information. The individual contractor will be based in Bangkok, Thailand and will be under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer (Disability advisor) with close coordination with UNDRR administrative team in UNDRR ROAP and the Deputy Chief of UNDRR ROAP will provide additional guidance. The Individual Contractor will perform a wide range of office support and administrative functions, including facilitating the full participation of the staff member with visual disability in work-related activities. This may include but is not limited to: • Collaborate with the staff member to prepare, edit, and review reports for track-changes and proof-reading for formatting. • Assist with accessing and managing internal information systems and IT platforms which is not supported by screen-reader for managing day-to-day work. • Facilitate in creating visual content including visually appealing presentations and convert hard-paper content, flip charts, images, and diagrams into screen-reader friendly content. • Escort for mobility assistance in the workplace and in non-familiar environments. • Assist with mobility and orientation during domestic and international travels utilizing sighted-guided technique. • Support in managing and maintaining schedules, appointments, and travel-related arrangements. • Provide administrative support in organizing and managing workshops, events, training and platforms for the disability work programme. • Support with networking and accessibility assistance during organizational representation to meetings and conferences. • Conduct desk research, compile and organize information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, and meetings/conferences related to the disability work programme. • Proofread documents and edit texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and formatting to align with established standards. • Perform data management functions. • Maintain files (both paper and electronic) and databases for the disability work programme. • Assist in providing software and office equipment support for staff member with visual impairment. • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Training or certification in support to people with visual disabilities and/or assistive technology is desirable. • Two years of experience in general office support or assisting staff with disability is required. • Experience in using Office 365 solution is desirable. • Experience in providing support to a person with a visual disability in a professional environment is desirable. • Experience in drafting and proofreading documentation in English is desirable.
