Save the Children Vanuatu is a key implementing partner, working closely with the Government of Vanuatu with funding from the Green Climate Fund.

The Vanuatu Community-based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP) is the largest locally led climate adaptation project in the Pacific, supporting communities across all six provinces of Vanuatu. It aims to strengthen resilience against climate change by:

Implementing scalable, locally driven adaptation actions. Supporting government and civil society to enable local-level adaptation. Promoting collaboration among communities, government, civil society, and the private sector.

Managed by the Program Management Unit (PMU) within the Department of Climate Change (DoCC), the project is delivered in partnership with multiple government agencies.

Where you come in:

In this fulltime contract position for 2 years with the possibility of extension, based in Port Vila, Vanuatu, you will use your program management expertise and technical experience to lead all aspects of the day-to-day management and coordination of the food security components of the project.

Working under the supervision of the Deputy Team Lead and in collaboration with the Sector Leads for DLA, Vanuatu Fisheries Department, and Department of Water Resources you will ensure effective implementation, high-quality and timely outputs, and strong coordination between project components.

You will make an impact by:

Driving program impact through coordinated, well-planned implementation, effectively conducting activities to support improved community climate resilience in 282 communities across Vanuatu.

Acting as the key focal point for all project-related food security matters and interface with all implementing partners or stakeholders (e.g. relevant Ministries, Provincial Technical Working Groups, Area Councils, Community Disaster Climate Change Committees, etc). Seeking and appropriately utilising technical input from consultants, DARD and other project partners to inform implementation of food security related program activities, ensuring food security project components are technically sound, implementation methods are consistent with national and global strategies and are likely to achieve scale, as well as equitable and sustainable results. Managing and mentoring interns and staff in line with organisational performance management expectations to capacity build and empower.

Does this sound like you?

You have extensive experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder, multi-location food security, livelihoods, agriculture or climate change programmes in Vanuatu and a strong understanding of climate change adaptation, resilience, and/or mitigation approaches in the Pacific. You are passionate about continuous learning and capacity building; adhere to high standards of accountability; and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative team environment.

This role requires:

Experience in program management, including managing complex budgets, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with donor, government and organisational requirements. Proven ability to work in a multi-partner project and support collaboration and coordination to achieve results. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including government bodies, donors, and local communities. Ability to multi-task, work with grace under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage stress appropriately.
