Urban Designer - International Consultant - North Lebanon Area

Work LocationNahr El Bared Camp - North Lebanon Area Expected duration9 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Consultant will work under the overall supervision of UNRWA Senior advisor - Urban Planning and Development and should work in close coordination with the NBC team as needed. The Consultant will be responsible for activities including but not limited to those described below. • Leading the implementation of the Public Space Strategy and Design for NBC Camp as per Terms of Reference – Annex I, including: o Leading project team working on the NBC public space project o Conducting the necessary urban analysis, urban assessments and community consultative processes needed for developing the public space strategy, identifying sites and designing the selected spaces o Designing public spaces within Nahr el Bared camp and its surroundings o Developing architectural concepts for public facilities in NBC o Coordinating with relevant UNRWA teams and staff in the concept and design development of the project o Following up with consulting firm who will develop specs, BOQ and construction drawings of the project. Qualifications/special skills● Advanced university degree (Masters' or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in urban design preferably (or urban planning, architecture or a related field). ● A Bachelor degree in architecture ● At least 7 years of professional experience in the field of urban design – preferably in high-density urban environments, Languages● Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and English. Competencies ● Excellent communication, negotiation and consensus building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse community stakeholders; ● Ability to lead strategic planning in a participative manner with politically and socially complex communities and to establish and maintain effective partnerships with a range of high-level stakeholders. ● Experience in public space design and participatory planning ● Preferable to have experience in working within informal urban settings, refugee camps or knowledge of Palestinian refugee context in Lebanon Total Remuneration: USD 87,260 per 9 months Additional InformationNot available.
