UN Womenโs Policy, Programme, and Intergovernmental Division (PPID) provides intellectual and strategic leadership on normative support and the delivery of integrated policy and program advice, including through policy analysis and gender mainstreaming. The Division leverages innovation, knowledge management and innovative technical expertise to support UN Women programs and to build the capacity of partners to deliver results on gender equality and womenโs empowerment. Within PPID, the Peace, Security and Resilience Section provides technical support to UN Women Country Offices in key areas including conflict prevention and peacebuilding, justice, and security sector reform, promoting women's political participation and mainstreaming gender issues into governance reforms.
The Elsie Initiative Fund for Uniformed Women in Peace Operations (EIF)ย (https://elsiefund.org/) is a UN multi-partner trust fund, hosted by HQ UN Women within the Peace, Security and Resilience Section.ย The EIF was designed to contribute to achieving progress towards the UN Security Councilโs gender targets, including theย United Nations Department of Peace Operationโs Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy 2018-2028. The EIF seeks to support and incentivise efforts to increase the meaningful participation of uniformed women in United Nations peace operations through the provision of financial assistance or financial incentives to Troop and Police Contributing Countries (T/PCCs), and financial support to projects submitted by United Nations organizations.
The EIF Secretariat provides technical and administrative support to the Steering Committee and manages all aspects of the EIFโs funding allocations and programming rounds, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
Reporting to the EIF Manager, the Communications Analyst is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of the EIF communications and advocacy strategies to increase the global reach and awareness of the EIF with Troop and Police Contributing counties, donors, the media, and the public.ย The Communications Analyst will work in close collaboration with EIF project focal points and fund recipients - T/PCCs, UN missions, UN Women / UNDP regional and country offices, HQ/Regional communications teams, and EIF Donors.
Key Functions and Accountabilities:
1. ย ย Plan, update and implement communication, outreach/advocacy strategies and plans
Analyze the EIFโs communications and advocacy requirements, and contribute to the development and regular updating of communication and outreach strategies ensuring the integration of a gender perspective from the standpoint of Security Institutions Support the integration of communication, advocacy and outreach strategies into project proposals and other initiatives Research, monitor and analyze relevant media and social media coverage, and draft reports Coordinate EIF campaigns and support campaigns and special events led by Security Institution fund recipients Provide communications and advocacy advice and guidance to EIF Fund recipients globally2. ย ย Coordinate and implement the development and dissemination of EIF advocacy materialsย
Develop communication instruments and materials, including drafting speeches and briefing materials for UN Women leadership Identify and propose information opportunities, activities, approaches and platforms and partners Support the production and dissemination of EIF publications, including annual reports and newsletters, as well as press releases, web and social media contentย Manage the translation, adaptation, rewriting, printing and dissemination of publications and audio-visual materialsย Conduct interviews and contribute to the development of feature stories, advocacy content, and thought leadership pieces that showcase the EIFโs results, strategic value, and impact3. ย ย Plan and coordinate media relations and online presence for the EIF
Coordinate all EIF program and project announcements and communicationsย Maintain, and proactively update the EIFโs contact databaseย Liaise with journalists and UN media and communications teams ย to support global media engagement Organize media interviews, press conferences and briefing sessions for press media Manage the EIFโs social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy4. ย ย Build and maintain partnerships and maintain relations with donors
Support project focal points during the project lifecycle including document reviews, drafting project summaries, and meeting minutes Identify and develop new communication partnerships and alliances to enhance visibility Liaise with EIF stakeholders and partners and undertake outreach to governments, womenโs military and police networks, civil society organisations and other groups to ensure information on the EIFโs programming, results and impact reaches the public and donors Support resource mobilization through the preparation of presentations and communications materials for potential donors5. ย ย Facilitate knowledge building and sharingย

Knowledge of women, peace and security and gender responsive approaches to UN peacekeeping is highly desirable.ย Experience in social media and media relations is required. Experience in using MS Office, web-based management systems, and spreadsheet/database tools is required. Experience in drafting and producing content for social media, websites, publications, newsletters, annual reports, and project documents is required. Experience in using graphic design tools including InDesign and Illustrator is desirable. Experience working in gender equality and at the international level is highly desirable.Language Requirements:
