Work LocationHybrid Expected duration8 Days Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform, which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at the country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. Every year, the UN Country Team in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hold a retreat to discuss key challenges and opportunities and agree priorities for the coming year. In 2025, the retreat is more significant as it is both an opportunity to discuss new global multilateral initiatives, as they relate to the UNsโ engagement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and also initiate dialogue on priorities as the UN Country Team begins planning with the Government of Saudi Arabia for the next UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework which will start in January 2027. The retreat discussions and outcomes will set the stage for a UNSDCF anchored in acceleration and innovation for sustainable development. The retreat is planned for the 3 days in the first 2 weeks of October, 2025. This consultancy is commissioned by the UN Resident Coordinatorโs Office (RCO) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The consultant will report directly to the Head of RC Office and will collaborate virtually with other RCO team members and relevant stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities: To support the Resident Coordinatorโs Office in fine tuning the UN Country Team Retreat 2025 agenda, facilitate the retreat guiding each session to ensure broad UNCT participation and contribution to achieve agreed results for the session, and preparing the final retreat report. Scope of Work 1. Retreat Design (2 working days/Remote) โข Work with the RC Office to fine tune the draft agenda including defining presenters, co-facilitators, rapporteurs and desired results for each session. โข Work with the RC Office to develop the master presentation and the template for the Retreat Report. โข Develop periodic ice breakers and mini exercises to engage participants. โข Define material session requirements for each session. 2. Retreat Facilitation (4 Working Days/On Site) โข Facilitate the retreat sessions, guiding participants through the discussions, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and engagement. The facilitator will create an environment conducive to open dialogue and innovative thinking. โข Coordinate with presenters, co-facilitators and rapporteurs to ensure that the discussions, outcomes, and action points from each session are documented. โข Prepare daily wrap-up points for the RC to close each day. 3. Retreat Report (2 Working Days) โข Using the pre-agreed report template, prepare a final draft retreat report for review by the RC Office and UNCT. โข Ensure that the Master presentation is complete with all session materials included. Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced degree (Masterโs or above) in Social Sciences with a focus on organizational development or change management or related fields or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in planning and facilitating complex workshops is required. Experience in organizational development or strategic consulting is desirable. Experience/knowledge with UN Agenda 20230 and the SDGs is desirable. Experience/knowledge with UN2.0, particularly foresight and innovation is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
