Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. At the country level, UNV Field Units interact with UN entities to strategically and meaningfully integrate volunteerism into the implementation and delivery of their mandates. As part of this process, UNV works with UN entities to identify opportunities where volunteers add specific and unique value to development programmes and peacekeeping missions.
ContextThis OV assignment is part of the UNV Pakistan Country Officeโs efforts to promote equitable access to information and opportunities while further streamlining, optimizing, and updating its volunteer onboarding process โ specifically the medical clearance form for volunteers undergoing onboarding. Sindhi is widely spoken across the Sindh Province of Pakistan, and providing accurate translations will ensure that selected candidates who are more comfortable in Sindhi can fully understand the requirements, expectations, and timelines associated with the filling of the medical clearance form as an essential part of the UN Volunteer onboarding process. Note: The onboarded OV will be based remotely and will not be hosted at any duty station or field office by the United Nations.
Task DescriptionUnder the day-to-day direct supervision of the Coordination Support Assistant at the UNV Pakistan Country Office, the Online Volunteer (OV) will support UNV to translate the content of a previously designed guidance infographic from English to Sindhi. The OV will be expected to ensure that the translation: โข Is accurate and consistent (in terminology, tone, and style) against the source text. โข Is fluent and readable in the target language. Note: The selected OV will be provided with the content in English and will receive associated guidance during the orientation process (and throughout the course of the assignment, as needed).
