Organizational Setting
The Department of Managementโs Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its four Sections, namely the Archives and Records Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management and General Support Section (FMGSS) and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS). Among the five Sections, the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS) provides site operation technical and administrative services to the work of the IAEAโs laboratories. SLSS services include facilities, technical, engineering, property and transport management, and site security through its management of the Seibersdorf Protective Force (SPF). The Section has a diverse complement of 35 staff, including technicians, drivers, procurement assistants and IT support. The armed SPF provides around-the-clock security for the site.
Main Purpose
Under the guidance of the Head, Facilities Management and Engineering Unit, the Toxic Materials Technician (TMT) orders, receives, ships, stores, monitors flow and disposes of all toxic products handled by Agencyโs Laboratories, in Vienna and Seibersdorf. The TMT maintains the General Waste Management Plan according to Austrian Regulations and applicable Agency procedures.
Functions / Key Results Expected
According to established standards and procedures identify, isolate, sort, record, store, distribute within Laboratories, all toxic materials as well as maintain an inventory control system database. Log in information into and maintain database of toxic and general waste disposal, for further reporting purpose. Provide a yearly report of the transactions and inventory;
Maintain the General Waste Management Plan following the Austrian Regulations and applicable Agency procedures by preparing summary reports on indexed toxic chemicals/goods and keep inventory of discarded dangerous/toxic wastes up to date. Be a focal point for queries and providing information on currently established standards on the Seibersdorf Site.
Collect all toxic material wastes and organize their disposal, based on applicable regulatory requirements or contractual arrangements;
Track if all toxic materials delivered to Laboratories is distributed according to operational safety requirements.
Manage the transport, handling and all logistics related to toxic and dangerous materials; and
Check if emergency medical equipment is operational and verify the validity of first Aid Kits request and replenish the supply, if required.
The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as an Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the IAEA's Radiation Safety Regulations.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
- Completed secondary education.
- Training and certification in dangerous goods and waste management and/or background in chemistry an asset.
- At least 5 years of experience with dangerous goods logistics, training in classification, packing, transport of dangerous goods.
- Excellent oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
- Administrative skills testing to IAEA standard might be part of the selection process.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 57876 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
