Project Description:

Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) is a global project funded by the US Government and the US Presidentโ€™s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), that provides strategic technical assistance and direct service delivery to achieve HIV epidemic control among all at-risk populations; strengthen global health security (GHS), including outbreak response; improve maternal and child health (MCH), address malaria; and promote health systems strengthening (HSS) including supply chain management.

Position Summary:

The Technical Specialist โ€“ Nutrition will provide hands-on technical support to the implementation of nutrition-related interventions under the EpiC project, with a focus on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition), community-based nutrition, and integration with Risk Communication and Community Engagement , MNCH, and emergency preparedness components.

Under the supervision of the Technical Advisor โ€“ Nutrition, the Specialist will work closely with national and sub-national partners, government agencies, civil society, and other stakeholders to strengthen nutrition service delivery and behavioral change communication. This position will support capacity-building efforts, supervise field-level activities, monitor nutrition indicators, and contribute to strategic planning, reporting, and learning processes. The role requires strong technical expertise in nutrition and experience working in integrated public health programs.

  • Assist in the design, planning, and implementation of nutrition activities in line with national guidelines and EpiCโ€™s strategic objectives.
  • Support the integration of essential nutrition actions into RCCE and MNCH platforms, particularly for pregnant/lactating women and children under five.
  • Provide technical input to adapt and roll out social and behavior change communication materials focused on maternal diets, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and adolescent nutrition.
  • Facilitate field implementation of core nutrition interventions (e.g., individual/group counseling, nutrition education, and screening).
  • Support local partner work plan development and provide ongoing monitoring of activity progress against the workplan throughout the life of project;
  • Coordinate the planning of technical assistance for local implementing partners in finance, M&E and technical issues, as needed;
  • Capacity Building and Supervision

    • Organize and facilitate trainings, orientations, and supportive supervision for frontline workers, health facility staff, and community-based agents on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition and nutrition-sensitive approaches.
    • Provide mentoring and on-the-job support to ensure quality and consistency of nutrition service delivery.
    • Support local stakeholders (MOHFW, community networks) to institutionalize evidence-based nutrition practices and standards.
    • Assist in developing nutrition-related SOPs and job aids.
    • Oversee the development and management of subrecipient monitoring and capacity building plans
    • Coordinate and monitor local partner subrecipient activities and progress against agreed-upon deliverables, subaward terms and conditions and targets and take corrective action where needed

      Coordination and Partnerships

      • Monitor the quality and coverage of field-level nutrition interventions and contribute to regular data reviews.
      • Identify bottlenecks in service delivery and propose corrective actions.
      • Collaborate with Strategic Information and program teams to ensure nutrition data informs programming and reporting.
      • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of nutrition-specific indicators, including
        • Coordinate with relevant government health wings (MOHFW, DGHS), local authorities, and partner organizations to ensure alignment and synergy in nutrition-related activities.
        • Participate in district- and national-level coordination meetings, technical working groups, and learning platforms.
        • Liaise with USG-funded initiatives to avoid duplication and promote joint planning in nutrition efforts.

          Documentation and Reporting

          • Contributes to the development of technical reports, case studies, success stories, and learning briefs focused on nutrition outcomes and innovations.
          • Ensure that lessons learned and community feedback are documented and used to improve program design and effectiveness.
          • Assist the Technical Advisor โ€“ Nutrition in preparing donor reports, presentations, and knowledge products.

            Qualifications and Experience:

            • Masterโ€™s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, or a related field.
            • Minimum 6-7 years of progressively responsible experience in implementing community-based nutrition and MIYCN programs, preferably in USG-funded projects.
            • Strong technical knowledge of maternal and child nutrition, Infant and Young Child Feeding practices, and nutrition in emergencies.
            • Proven experience in training, supervision, and capacity building of health workers or community volunteers.
            • Familiarity with national nutrition policies and service delivery structures in Bangladesh.
            • Skilled in data use for decision-making and program improvement.
            • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and communication skills in both English and Bangla.
            • Willingness to travel regularly to field locations.
