Work LocationHome base-working remotely Expected duration12 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe consultant will provide technical expertise and support the Knowledge and Risk unit's work on mercury and synergies With respect to the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership: โข Coordinate the communication and dissemination of information to network partners and beyond as relevant, including through emails, knowledge hubs, newsletters, as well as in person and online events. โข Support the resource mobilization and related research for the preparation phase of technical assistance and capacity - building projects or other relevant proposals. โข Support the refining and maintenance of the Partnership website. โข Oversee the transition to soft membership system and maintaining the list of partners up to date. โข Coordinate the establishment of working groups on oil and gas and non-ferrous mining. โข Coordinate the organization and delivery of webinars under the secretariat of the Global Mercury Partnership on key topics related to mercury and chemicals pollution, including their interaction with biodiversity and climate change. With respect to technical Assistance and capacity-building: โข Coordinate the MIA Global Component, including related agreements, reporting and technical assistance and evaluations. โข Where relevant, assist in the implementation and review of ASGM National Action Plans projects. โข Provide technical assistance to countries developing Minamata Initial Assessments and, where needed, ASGM National Action Plans. โข Contribute to the coordination of targeted technical assistance provided to the projects on mercury-containing products, including dental amalgam. With respect to technical research and data compilation: โข Coordinate research work on mercury/hazardous chemicals pollution, including from ASGM and related activities, as well as linkages with biodiversity, climate change and other related aspects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and conventionsโ secretariats. โข Coordinate research on mercury waste, mercury pollution, including its transport and fate, impacts on biodiversity, monitoring and policy options and document key findings in collaboration with relevant experts and stakeholders. โข Coordinate the development and piloting in selected countries of guidance/tools to support the integration of chemicals pollution into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). โข Contribute to and support countries in development of the project proposal for GBF Fund. Qualifications/special skillsEducation: Masterโs degree or equivalent in a field related to environment/natural sciences, environmental engineering or environmental governance. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying' experience (2 additional years) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. โข A minimum of five years of relevant experience in environmental domain, including sound management of chemicals and waste is required โข Strong knowledge and understanding of the environmentally sound management of mercury, from a technical as well as policy/regulatory perspective is desirable. โข Experience working with GEF projects is required โข Experience in supporting administrative elements of project development and execution is desirable โข Strong analytical, research and drafting skills, as well as ability to tailor language and styles to relevant audiences, including policy makers and the private sector is desirable โข Experience in data analysis, reporting and capacity building in different settings is desirable. โข Working experience(s) in a multicultural environment, particularly in the UN System, is an asset.
