5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Job Description

Introduction

Are you an enthusiastic Electromechanical Technical Engineer interested in the development, manufacturing and operation of superconducting accelerator magnets? Join a dedicated team pushing the limits of superconducting accelerator magnets, to shape the future of the largest accelerator in the world, take part!

The Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group in CERNโ€™s Technology Department (TE), has the mandate to design, construct, and measure the superconducting and normal conducting magnets for the CERN accelerator complex. This includes magnet integration, cryostat design, quality control, and operational support across the accelerator chain.

Within MSC, the Large Magnet Facility Section (LMF) leads the construction, maintenance and support of the acceleratorโ€™s superconducting magnets. It also produces, and maintains busbars, electrical connections, and interconnections. Current work includes the construction of coils, magnets and cold masses for the HL-LHC project, as well as preparations for the upcoming Long Shutdown 3. The team is also involved in the development of future superconducting magnets, for example within the High Field Magnets program and experimental superferric magnets. All activities are carried out in a purpose-built facility on the CERN site.

Functions

As an experienced technical engineer in the Large Magnet Facility (LMF) section, you will develop a strong expertise in the field of accelerator magnet construction by:

Contributing to the construction of superconducting coils and magnets, in close collaboration with engineers and technicians, including prototyping, with a focus on producing cost-effective, full-length accelerator magnets for system integration;Participating in research and development of technologies for superconducting accelerator magnets and associated technologies, including those addressed in the High Field Magnet (HFM) programme;Collaborate in the development of superconducting magnets, specifically related to technical aspects and fabrication, including development of tooling and follow up of purchase orders in the industry for parts or equipment;Coordinate the technical work of technicians and organising the work schedule as a function of the general planning;Develop tools and solutions for new projects and their procurement, ensuring compatibility with the repair processes of LHC Nb-Ti magnets within the LMF coil winding facility.
