The Emerging Infections and Parasitology Laboratory focuses on enteric pathogens and parasitic infections, as well as vector-borne diseases in humans, including malaria, leishmaniasis, dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, enteric protozoan infections, and helminth infections. This laboratory also conducts wastewater surveillance studies, employing various laboratory methods to detect measles, influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and other respiratory viruses in wastewater. This can help infer the transmission dynamics of the respective diseases caused by the corresponding pathogens in the associated catchment areas. The laboratory scientists conduct research and activities as principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and co-investigators, collaborating with national and international institutes/universities and with different Divisions of icddr, b. This unit also works on anti-parasitic drug discovery, diagnostic kit evaluation, G6PD deficiency, and new therapeutic and vaccine trials.
Position Description:
The Surveillance Worker (Rural) will report to the Research Investigator and will be responsible for contacting the BRAC and/or partner community health workers and their labs for Malaria patients. Once a suspected case is found Malaria positive, sample collection is conducted to ensure high-quality data by following standard operational practice and icddr,b organizational values and guidelines. She/he will be involved in –
Conduct Health Centre visits for sample and data collection; Obtain consent/assent from the participants before sample collection; Maintain accurate records and ensure data quality; Measure height, weight, and haemoglobin conc. In the blood of the participants; Collect sample (Venous Blood or Dried blood spot) and store them following study protocols; Perform RDT and Microscopic Diagnosis; Maintain screening and visit logs; Engage with community members and ensure ethical research practices; Report daily activities to the field supervisor.Required qualifications and experience:
HSC or equivalent; 1 year of experience in a relevant field; Experience in clinical sample collection, patient data collection or community health work will be preferred; Candidates will be given preference who have previous experience in Hilt tracts areas, especially in the Malaria surveillance study; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Basic knowledge of Malaria Disease will be an advantage.Location: Bandharbon Field Office

Contract Type and Duration:
Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; the duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to the availability of funds and performance.Salary & Benefits:
Tk.17,390/-(consolidated) per month, inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and Daycare facilities are subject to space availability.Notes of attention:
