5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesIn recent years, there has been a growing interest, engagement, and activism among young people in the climate agenda. Through climate strikes and advocacy efforts, young people continue to call on governments and other relevant stakeholders to take collective action on climate change. In this context, engaging youth in shaping climate policies and implementing solutions remains crucial. Over the past decade, youth-led initiatives have played an increasingly influential role in international climate negotiations. Governments are progressively integrating youth voices into climate strategies, with youth engagement mechanisms expanding across NDC revisions, Just Transition dialogues, and loss and damage discussions. An increasing number of national climate policies now reference youth participation, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for intergenerational climate leadership. To foster this interaction and empower action, UNDP Asia-Pacificโ€”together with UNICEF East Asia and Pacific, UNICEF South Asia, UNFCCC Regional Collaboration โ€“ Bangkok, British Council, YOUNGO, Movers Program, and 2030 Youth Forceโ€”has established a regional platform to support youth climate leadership and institutional participation.

ContextYouth in the Asia-Pacific region are increasingly engaged in climate governance, yet challenges remain in institutionalizing their participation and fostering trust in policymaking. The data and insights collected through this task will help assess regional progress, identify gaps, and inform policy advocacy efforts led by UNDP Asia-Pacific and its partners. This assignment will support the development of a Gender and Climate Finance Digital Sourcebook, aimed at strengthening the capacity of youth-led CSOs to engage with gender-responsive climate finance. It will connect youth-led initiatives with investors, donors, and other actors advancing inclusive climate solutions. The Online Volunteerโ€™s contribution will support SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by helping ensure the visibility and impact of youth voices in climate finance.

Task DescriptionWe are seeking one Online Volunteer to support the development of a Youth-Focused Climate Finance Digital Sourcebook. In collaboration with the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub Youth Team, the Online Volunteer will: โ€ข Assist in reviewing existing UNDP climate finance sourcebooks and mapping up to five additional relevant resources (e.g., toolkits, guides), applying a youth and gender lens. โ€ข Identify and summarize key themes, useful tools, and information gaps relevant to youth access to climate finance. โ€ข Contribute to developing an outline and draft content for a youth-focused sourcebook, including sections on climate finance mechanisms, funding platforms, and access strategies. โ€ข Support editing, formatting, and incorporating feedback into the final version of the sourcebook. โ€ข Assist in drafting short communication content to support the Sourcebookโ€™s outreach and launch.
