Subsequently, map, in consultation with the Team, and conduct consultations (virtual and/or in person) with relevant stakeholders within regional and subregional organizations as well as national authorities of identified countries. This will take 50 days. 2. Identify and conduct case studies on selected regional peace and security operations that have engaged with the protection of education in armed conflict, such as the G5 Sahel Joint Task Force and NATO. This includes an analysis of good practices and lessons learned from the experiences of regional peace and security operations that can inform efforts by UN peacekeeping to improve the protection of education where missions are deployed. This will take 25 days. 3. Drafting and finalizing, including integrating feedback from the Team, the Practice Note on the protection of education by regional and sub-regional organizations and operations. Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe work assignment for the individual contractor will include the following tasks: โข Desk research on policy frameworks related to the protection of education in armed conflict and peace operations, including, but not limited to, the Safe Schools Declaration, Security Council resolutions, African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council communiquรฉs and related conclusions, and other relevant documents. โข Stakeholder consultations with regional and sub-regional organizations (including AU, EU, NATO, RECs, REMs), Member States (including Ministries of Education and Defense in selected countries), UNOAU, UNLOPS, other UN entities, and civil society partners. โข Case studies on two to three regional peace and security operations, such as the G5 Sahel Joint Task Force, analyzing good practices, gaps, and lessons learned to identify how regional operations can strengthen their role in the protection of education, in support of organizational learning and knowledge sharing with regional partners. โข Drafting and finalizing a Practice Note on the protection of education by regional and sub-regional organizations and operations. Qualifications/special skillsAn Advanced university degree (masterโs or equivalent) in law, social sciences, international affairs, human rights, education in emergencies, humanitarian assistance, or related areas is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional qualifying years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, protection of civilians, child protection, education in emergencies, peacekeeping/peace operations, or related fields is required. Proven expertise in integrating education and child protection into policy or operational frameworks is required. Demonstrated knowledge of regional peace and security architectures (AU, EU, NATO, RECs, REMs) is required. Extensive experience with policy research, drafting, and multi-stakeholder consultations is required. Effective communication, facilitation, and networking skills; ability to work with diverse stakeholders is required. Strong analytical writing skills, with a record of producing high-quality documents is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
