JOB PURPOSE
To support and oversee electrical and general maintenance operations within the residential compound, ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous functioning of electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and facility infrastructure. This position is responsible for planning and executing maintenance tasks in coordination with other maintenance staff, performing preventive maintenance, and responding to emergency repairs. The role will provide a comprehensive range of skilled site maintenance services, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and appliances, to ensure a safe, comfortable, and reliable environment for residents and staff.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
1. Install, maintain and repair internal and external electrical wiring, including area lighting systems throughout the residential compound.
2. Replace and install electrical fixtures such as plugs, sockets, switches, light fittings, electrical board, and circuit breakers in residential units and shared facilities.
3. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment, including water heaters, lawnmowers, and related appliances. This includes early detection and anticipation of electrical issues.
4. Inspect and service backup generators, including monitoring fuel and oil levels, testing batteries, and diagnosing operational faults to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
5. Operate electrical and mechanical tools and equipment, including drilling and welding machines, for various maintenance and repair tasks. This includes ensuring proper maintenance and storekeeping of all tools and equipment for lasting.
6. Assist in planning and executing maintenance projects, including setting up scaffolding when necessary and preparing material and equipment requisitions all in accordance to WFP best safety practices.
7. Support general maintenance across the compound, including water pump installation, basic plumbing, masonry repairs and coordination with other site maintenance staff.
8. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all electrical systems and ensure systems operate efficiently and in line with safety standards.
9. Provide technical assistance and supervision to junior maintenance staff or helpers when delegated.
10. Respond quickly and effectively to urgent maintenance requests and electrical issues in residential and communal areas.
11.Contribute to the preparation of material, labour, and time estimates for maintenance and upgrade projects.
12. Support the acquisition and transportation of tools, materials, and spare parts, including liaising with suppliers when necessary.
13. Maintain accurate records and logs of maintenance operations, repairs completed, and the condition of electrical systems and equipment.
14. Carry out any additional tasks as assigned to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the residential compound.
15. Comply with occupational safety and health (OSH) regulations and implement safe work practices in all maintenance activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Completion of secondary school education. Demonstrated qualification in electricity. Completion of technical/vocational school or electrical certification is desirable.
Experience: Four or more years of progressively responsible and proven effective experience in planning and executing specialized electrical installations, maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge and Skills:In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, troubleshooting, and repair techniques.
Ability to work with and repair mechanical equipment, such as water heaters, pumps, lawnmowers, and backup generators
Ability to inspect and evaluate equipment/appliances and resolve malfunctioning quickly including ability to perform tests and use the results to diagnose problems.
Ability to carry out installation of the equipment/appliances expertly and sometimes under difficult and awkward physical circumstances.
Ability to use hand and power tools.
Ability to multi-task and respond simultaneously and in a timely fashion to job requirements.
Ability to maintain accurate and precise records.
High sense of responsibility and punctuality.
Honesty and integrity.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and draft various correspondence.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
Ability to work in a team and provide technical supervision to other staff.
