The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its General Secretariat (GS), Marketing Division (MRKTG), Editorial & Storytelling Unit at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Writer/Storyteller*. This is a full-time position with limited travel requirements at grade 4/5 – F/E for which the EIF offers a permanent contract.

This is a generic campaign in the view of addressing both current vacancies and to a create reserve list for future vacancies. Retention of the reserve list will be for a maximum period of 18 months.

Purpose:

Part of the EIB Group, the mission of the European Investment Fund (EIF) is to improve access to finance for SMEs and small mid-caps in Europe. We do this by supporting emerging and established fund managers with equity investments and by designing debt financing instruments that share the risk taken by financial institutions when they lend to or invest in small businesses. We bring this support closer to entrepreneurs through our extensive network of partners and financial intermediaries in all EU Member States and associated countries.

The Marketing Department ensures the EIF’s activities are known and valued by stakeholders and the general public.

This role is responsible for generating compelling written and audiovisual content across a wide range of topics and audiences related to financial instruments and SME financing topics primarily for the EIF’s different policy areas; Innovation, Competitiveness & Growth, Human Capital & Skills, Climate Action & Environmental Sustainability.

Duties centre on storytelling and content generation that is engaging, whilst being informative and insightful. Tasks include building a written and audiovisual library to showcase EIF’s efforts on the ground, researching and writing thematic blogs, proposing tweets and other social media content, producing annual reports, and country specific brochures. In addition, the role ensures an eye for clear purpose, compelling messaging, audience appropriateness, and consistent tone and style for each piece delivered.

Proven experience in writing / storytelling and audio-visual content direction along with a high competency in project management and stakeholder engagement are an advantage.

Operating network:

You will report to the Head of Marketing and take direction from the Head of Unit of the Editorial & Storytelling Unit, which collaborates closely with other competence centres within the Marketing Division, namely: campaigns & events, social media & digital and graphic design.

You will be expected to collaborate with multiple points of contact across the organisation including investment teams, mandate managers, and various other subject matter experts as well as interact with the EIB story telling division and media officers to ensure the cross-fertilisation of ideas and stories.

Responsibilities:

At a level commensurate with your experience and seniority, you will support the EIF’s marketing and communication efforts by:

Scouting and interviewing EIF-backed SMEs and intermediaries and writing emotiveand engaging case studies;

Identifying relevant case studies for audio visual content and working with film producers to create case study and explainer videos;

Drafting content and project managing the production of EIF’s Annual Report and other collateral material like information brochures and website content;

Generating ideas for thought leadership blogs, researching and writing content with strong and thought provoking narratives;

Collaborating with EIF subject matter experts to curate and deliver clear audience-specific marketing content that shares the EIF’s expertise and thought leadership;

Coordinating with EIF and EIB colleagues on press-related matters, including press releases, interviews with the press, and press events amongst others;

Incorporating best practices in marketing content development, ensuring consistent and relevant tone of voice based on purpose and audience;

Procuring and managing external specialist agencies to deliver audiovisual content and SME photography amongst others.

Qualifications:

Between three (3) and five (5) years of post-graduation (after having obtained your initial university diploma) relevant professional experience at the same level of responsibility;

University degree (preferably at post graduate level) in communications, journalism or other relevant subjects;

Proven experience in writing for different audiences and different media including blogs and audio visual content;

Any - or combination - of the following would be considered an advantage:

(i) Competent understanding of financial engineering instruments and SME financing needs;

(ii) Good understanding of the EIF’s objectives and policy orientation, and the EU political scene more broadly;

Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other European languages is an advantage.

Solid analytical skills and able to distill complex notions to relevant and relatable stories;

Very strong interpersonal skills to able to connect with entrepreneurs, other external stakeholders as well as build relationships with internal experts;

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;

Strong team player, constructive and result-oriented work approach;

Capacity to develop in the role and adapt to rapidly evolving needs;

Ability and motivation to act independently and take initiative;

Effective project management and planning skills;Excellent attention to detail.
