Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
The assignment is home-based and under the supervision of the FAO Chief Economist.
Reporting Lines
The Senior Technical Specialist reports to the FAO Chief Economist and works in close collaboration with the Divisions/Offices/Centres under his direct supervision and with other units and Decentralized Offices across the Organization
Technical Focusย
Provide technical and investment advice and partnership liaison support in line with selected activities and objectives of the stream of the Chief Economist including the Hand in Hand Investment Forum.ย
Tasks and responsibilities
Technical and Operational advice on investment, technical and policy assistance support as well as partnership building in accordance with Divisional/Office/Centre objectives and the FAO Strategic Framework, in particular:
โข ย ย Coordinate and manage, including strategic guidance and promotion with various stakeholder groups, the Hand-in-Hand (HIH) Investment Forum 2025 as part of the World Food Forum (WFF).
โข ย ย Advise and provide assistance and support to the coordination and management of the broader WFF programme.
โข ย ย Strengthen partnership with key partners and support active engagement with the private sector around priority topics and defined investment plans.
โข ย ย Provide strategic advice and technical support to FAO Global Roadmap on โAchieving SDG2 without breaching the 1.5C threshold, and its translation to national action plans.
โข ย ย Manage and coordinate selected national action plans in close consultation and liaison with key ministries, national institutions as well as the scientific team in context of the Global Roadmap and in preparation for priority Global events in 2025 in collaboration with the wider Team.
โข ย ย Promote and facilitates interactions and exchanges with FAO decentralized Offices and Government Officials to ensure coordination and coherence on common areas of interests.
โข ย ย Foster teamwork and communication among different teams working on mutual objectives, maintains a flexible way of working and is willing to perform varying duties.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
โข ย ย University degree in political sciences, business administration, agricultural economics, development economics or related field
โข ย ย Minimum ten years of relevant experience in programme and project management, policy and technical advice and analysis, monitoring and evaluation in areas related to the mandate of FAO

Technical/Functional Skills ย
โข ย ย Limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of another FAO official language is an advantage.ย
โข ย ย Work experience in more than one location or area of work is essential.
โข ย ย Extent and relevance of experience in technical cooperation's related activities, policy advice and analysis related to agrifood systems and/or providing technical and policy assistance support.
โข ย ย Extent and relevance of experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs as well as donors and government institutions and agencies.
โข ย ย Relevance and extent of experience in working with inter-governmental bodies and multi-disciplinary teams.
