Senior Research Investigator (Adv#141/2025)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation. icddrb, as a values-based organization, encourages women and people with disabilities.

The Nipah virus transmission in Bangladesh, Establishing Community-based Notification for the Detection of Nipah Cases by Using the Local Healthcare System, and Nipah Correlates of Protection (CoP) Study are national priority projects focusing on emerging infectious diseases, hospital and community-based data collection, and the generation of evidence for public health response. To support these initiatives, icddr,b is looking to recruit a Senior Research Investigator.

Position Description:

The Senior Research Investigator will report to the Project Coordinator and will be mainly responsible for enhancing team capacity to conduct emerging and re-emerging infectious disease research and coordinating research studies in collaboration with government and non-governmental, national and international partners within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values. The specific areas of responsibility include:

Identify and apply for funding opportunities from national and international grant agencies; Develop and implement innovative research proposals and protocols applying various methodologies; Conduct research projects, including developing research design, overseeing data collection, and rigorous data analyses; Prepare comprehensive research reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts, and participate in scientific reviews to uphold publication standards; Evaluate financial and technical resource requirements to ensure efficient project execution and sustainability; Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support Nipah outbreak investigation, response, and research activities. Mentor and train junior researchers and students in proposal development, research methods and techniques, experimental design, and scientific writing; Supervise research staff in data collection, data analysis, and field implementation activities; Develop, implement, and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support efficient workflows and on-time project delivery; Conduct critical peer reviews of scientific manuscripts to support publication efforts; Assess financial and non-financial resource requirements aligned with project methodologies and institutional priorities; Facilitate Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and approvals for human-subject research; Organize and lead workshops, seminars, and collaborative initiatives; Present research findings at national and international conferences to disseminate scientific knowledge and foster collaborations.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

PhD in Social Science related to public health research from a reputed university; 8 years of professional experience in emerging and re-emerging infectious disease research, including at least 5 years in the Nipah outbreak, surveillance, and research projects; Advanced research capabilities and practical knowledge; Publications as first-author in eminent peer-reviewed journals; Experience in managing or leading research projects and team supervision; Strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English and Bangla.

Contract Type and duration:

Fixed Term Contract; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension, subject to the availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

Annual Tk. 19,82,790/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits; 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children's allowance @ @ Tk.. 1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
