In this key role, we need your exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to drive a specialised response for victim-survivors who are impacted by family and sexual violence. Based in Mount Isa police station, youโll work closely with the QPS, providing trauma-informed, person centred support.

In this full-time, maximum term position (12 months, with potential for extension) youโll be the DFV Specialist Practitioner working in close partnership with QPS to deliver a range of supports aimed at improving the safety of victim-survivors who present to the Mt Isa Police Station. Youโll also contribute to improving service system integration between QPS and other agencies, and youโll be based at Mt Isa Police Station.
You will make a difference by:
Undertaking crisis intervention including risk and needs assessment and safety planning to address the immediate needs of the victim-survivor Assisting police to engage with the victim-survivor by building trust and rapport Promoting better understanding of the dynamics of gender, power and control and the ability to identify and respond to the patterns of behaviour over time that constitute DFV Strengthening the identification of the person most in need of protection in the relationship Promoting holding persons using violence to account Promoting information sharing practices in accordance with Section 5A of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 Strengthening collaboration and knowledge sharing to help build capacity and capability within the police service and across the DFV specialist service system Improving service system integration, including promoting better understanding of agency roles and responsibilitiesA place to feel valued:
Youโre an experienced Domestic and Family Violence practitioner who is passionate about supporting families within a child centred, strengths-based framework. Importantly, you have a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on children and their families and youโre keenly aware of the additional impacts and barriers experienced by Indigenous families.
This role requires:
Demonstrated experience in case management and knowledge of relevant legislation Ability to build effective relationships, liaise and work collaboratively with program stakeholders, community members, relevant Government and non-Government organisations Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families Strong report writing and evaluation skills, including data collation and analysis Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or significant experience working in a similar serviceA place to belong:
