Job Summary:

Lead the development and execution of the overall security strategy for the Global Security Division of the organization. Direct the organizationโ€™s security strategy and process, manage its assets, programs, and services for security and emergency response, both domestically and abroad. Oversee an extended network of staff and services including regional security managers, project-embedded security professionals, country focal points, and external security vendors charged with protecting the organizationโ€™s global workforce, including sponsored travelers, assets, and operations, from potential threats and risks. Manage and perform specialized support functions across security, crisis management, preparedness, business continuity, and global communications. Maintain security management infrastructure and chair the Emergency Management Team (EMT). Ensure command and control in response to threats affecting the organization and provide uninterrupted coverage of security detail. May also act as regional security manager in response to high level threats or during staff absences and vacancies. Support the business development and design of new programs ensuring appropriate staffing and resource levels are adequate to safety and security while reducing and mitigating risk to the organization. Responsible for the development and tracking of global security-related policies, standards, and procedures. Set milestones for strategic plan coverage. Measure and prepare reporting metrics for the Board of Directors as part of the Enterprise Risk Management system. This position will report to the Chief Compliance Officer.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure compliance with funder security regulations and company security policies and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Global Security Program.

  • Provide regular security briefs and emergency updates for the Executive Management Team (EMT).

  • Lead the organizational response to critical events affecting the organizationโ€™s personnel and projects, including directing the Crisis Management Team, and serving as the lead role for high level security threats.

  • Advise Senior Management and staff in the interpretation of security policies and the development of plans and procedures to meet client and funder security requirements.

  • Design, implement, and maintain the continuous evolution of security management policies, procedures, and practices, in partnership with People and Culture, Global Communications, Digital Transformation and Technology, Global Operations and Services, Finance, Administration, and Legal.

  • Ensure ongoing external networking to obtain valuable insight and intelligence on security management and benchmark against peer organizations.

  • Demonstrate thought leadership in safety and security topics, both internally and externally.

  • Manage the operational and strategic functions for the Global Security Department to ensure compliance with organizational standards, high performance, strategy and efficiency.

  • Provide team management, including setting a vision/direction, corrective disciplinary action, ongoing feedback, and communication.

  • Adopt and use state-of-the-art systems and automated processes, including use of innovative technologies.

  • Lead and engage in ongoing learning and capacity development to enhance performance of the global security workforce, including serving as a role model for team members. Provide staff training including drills, tabletop exercises, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT), first aid/EMT, and Active Shooter, to name a few.

  • Ensure that all global staff understand the importance of and procedures surrounding incident management and reporting.

  • Actively manage complex, high-risk incidents, including travel to high-risk countries.

  • Implement strong and visible communication of global securityโ€™s role in protecting the organizationโ€™s assets and reducing risk, working with staff to ensure security policies and procedures are adhered to.

  • Support proposal development (i.e., security narrative and security related budget input) and attend kick-off and planning meetings.

  • Supervise a team of regional security managers and/or country-based local contacts/vendors, who are responsible for providing security/emergency management in their assigned portfolios.

  • Coordinate with other Enterprise Services functions and service delivery contracts such as medical evacuation services, online training, and risk management services, on behalf of the organization.

  • Maintain document and electronic information systems related to Global Security policies and procedures, After Action Reviews, Country Security Plans, and incident management reports.
