Result of ServiceThe result of services is to support the Mitigation Branch and UNEP India Office in the implementation of the Cool Coalition workstream in India on sustainable urban cooling and replicate learnings to other countries. This will be through assisting with project activities of senior advisory, strategic and technical nature, including a) strategy development on extreme heat, passive cooling and urban design , b) senior advisory on governance, policy development and financing on urban heat and cooling c) technical inputs to guidelines and training on extreme heat, urban design, governance and passive cooling; d) delivering training to senior officers; e) project planning including for Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra city support programmes; and f) provide insights to the development of funding proposals. Work LocationRemote Expected duration18 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe consultantโ€™s assignment is to provide senior technical expertise and strategic advisory to UNEP and to national and subnational implementation activities on sustainable urban cooling in India and globally (urban design, passive cooling, heat adaptation) including direct technical advisory to national and subnational governments. The senior advisor will be part of the Cities Unit of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Specifically, they are needed to support the delivery of UNEPโ€™s India Cooling Programme which is being implemented by UNEP under the framework of the Cool Coalition. Qualifications/special skillsAcademic Advanced University degree (Masters or equivalent) in Energy Policy, Engineering, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Physics, or a similar discipline is preferable. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of twenty years in a relevant field of work, preferably with a focus on energy, cities and the environment. Practical experience in multi-stakeholder project development, financing, partnership building, and administration, preferably within the sustainable energy context is desired. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required.
