Result of ServiceThe individual contractor will be asked to deliver the below: • Deliverable 1: Materials for the regional workshop on AIRSO Mahdar application. • Deliverable 2: Guidelines for using the desktop application “AIRSO Mahdar” to analyze data and formulate road safety policies, strategies, and action plans. • Deliverable 3: Training materials for a capacity-building workshop on utilizing processed data from “AIRSO Mahdar” to identify problems, risk factors, and priority areas, as well as set goals and monitor performance. • Deliverable 4: Materials for the regional workshop on sharing insights from the current UNRSF project with other Arab countries. • Deliverable 5: Comprehensive final guidelines to be disseminated to other Arab countries. • Deliverable 6: Assessment of the project summaries received from Member states for the UNRSF call for proposals 2025. • Deliverable 7: Paper for the transport IGM on the road safety project titled “Strengthening Evidence Based Interventions in the Arab region.” Work LocationUN-House ESCWA Expected duration6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: The service of the Individual contractor is needed to carry out research and analyses on Road Safety in the Arab region and in the implementation of various road safety projects. ESCWA is implementing several UNRSF-funded projects in the Arab region that are at different stages of implementation. Other road safety issues are also being considered for the year 2025 to enable member countries to improve road safety management in their territories. Duties and Responsibilities: The research assistant on road safety will be responsible for the following tasks: • Contributing to the planning and preparing the materials for several workshops and trainings on the project titled “Strengthening Evidence Based Interventions in the Arab region.” • Preparing guidelines on how to use the desktop application for data analysis to formulate road safety policies, strategies and action plans. • Assisting in the assessment of project summaries received from Member states for the UNRSF call for proposals 2025. • Assisting in the preparation of concept notes of selected projects for the first phase of the UNRSF call for proposals 2025. • Assisting in the preparation of the papers for the transport IGM. • Providing technical support on other road safety projects. • Research, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information/data related to activities on Road Safety in the Arab region. • Other tasks as required. Qualifications/special skillsA Master degree in Transportation Engineering, or in Management of Road Safety is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in the field of Road Safety is required. Knowledge of transportation engineering and road safety issues is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
