Research Officer with Enteric and Respiratory Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division (Adv#100/2025)

Mucosal Immunology and Vaccinology Unit (MIVU) under the Infectious Diseases Division has a focus on studies to understand the systemic and mucosal immunology of diseases with natural infections and its application and extension to better determine the vaccine efficacy. Emphasis has been on studies of cholera, Shigella, ETEC, typhoid and recently on COVID-19 research.

Position Description:
The Research Officer will report to the Assistant/Associate/Senior Scientist and will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing laboratory assays to conduct high-quality laboratory research. S/he will be involved in –

Perform routine laboratory experiments; Perform laboratory tests based on the direction from the supervisor; Storage and preservation of samples in appropriate conditions according to the laboratory equipment maintenance standard; Check adherence to quality assurance processes from collection to reception by the laboratory in order to monitor adherence to quality guidelines in laboratory test processes and results; Routine monitoring of inventory with the help of supporting staff in order to maintain the sample's integrity; Carry out PBMC separation from blood specimens, ELISA, ELISPOT, ALS, Luminex and Flow cytometrical assay; Preparation of dried-blood spot (DBS) card for immunological assay and thalassemia screening; Carry out microbiological culture and PCR for detection of enteric pathogens; Perform nucleic acid extraction, conventional PCR, qPCR and TaqMan Array Card (TAC) assay for detection of enteric pathogens; Detection of B-cell and T-cell mediated immune response against cholera, ETEC, Typhoid; Work together with senior colleagues in the Lab and assist them in performing different laboratory tests with study samples as per guidelines; Analyse data for report writing and report results, maintaining confidentiality; Manuscript writing and providing inputs to support scientific analysis.

Required qualification and experience:

Masters in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Genetic Engineering with an excellent academic record. At least 3 years of laboratory research experience.

Contract Type and duration:

Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 06 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

Tk.62,895/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
