This position will be hired for the Molecular Ecology and Metagenomics (MEM) Laboratory of icddr,b, which specializes in conducting research involving next-generation sequencing of genomes, metagenomics, and bioinformatics to unveil the survival strategies, pathogenesis, source attributes, disease transmission, and antimicrobial resistance profiles of cholera and related diarrhea pathogens such as Vibrio cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus, V. mimicus, Escherichia coli etc. The MEM laboratory has a long track record of doing research on bacteriophage-pathogen interactions, gut and vaginal microbiota associated with health and pregnancy outcomes, and is working collaboratively with many national and international organizations, providing quality research support and training, and building the capacity of icddr,b.
Position Description:
The Research Officer will report to the Assistant Scientist and will be responsible for advanced bioinformatics analyses and analytical pipeline development for genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and multi-omics data. S/he will be involved inโ
Design, development, and optimisation of bioinformatics pipelines for genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic datasets Perform advanced statistical, machine learning, and AI-driven analysis to explore biological features, insights, and patterns Develop and maintain reproducible analytical workflows using R, Python, Perl, or other relevant programming languages Implement and manage containerized workflows using NextFlow, Docker, or similar technologies Manage preprocessing and integration of large-scale multi-omics datasets Collaborate closely with wet-lab members to interpret sequencing and experimental results Create custom visualization tools, dashboards, and interactive reports Maintain internal databases to ensure compliance with data security, data protection, ethical guidelines, and institutional policies Prepare high-quality reports for grant proposals, research collaborations, and publications Benchmarking new algorithms, bioinformatics tools and software Training juniors, interns and students in computational analysis methods Assisting in project planning, timeline estimation and progress tracking for bioinformatics deliverablesRequired qualification and experience:
Masters in Bioinformatics/Applied Statistics /Statistics/Microbiology /Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering from a reputed university with good academic records; Minimum 3 years of experience in conducting Bioinformatic data analysis or developing analytical pipelines Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or Perl Experience with Nextflow and Docker pipelines Strong knowledge of statistical, machine learning, and AI approaches for advanced analysisLocation: Mohakhali Campus, Dhaka

Contract Type and Duration:
Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; the duration will be 11 months with a possibility of extension, subject to the availability of funds and performance.Salary & benefits:
