The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is looking for a highly motivated full-time Research Associate with an interest in international macroeconomics and macroeconomics and development. Ideal candidates would have at least a Masterโs degree and preferably a PhD in economics or closely related areas. Strong skills in applied econometric and quantitative analysis are essential.
Responsibilities
- Assist in data searching, collection, gathering, and processing.
- Assist in conducting applied economic research (using quantitative method of analysis) on macroeconomic and development related topics.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and editing research papers, including conducting literature reviews.
- Assist in organizing conferences, workshops, and other research related events domestic (Japan, mainly at ADBI office) and overseas (virtual or in-person).
- Support other projects and activities in coordination with Support Staff, as assigned and discussed by the supervisor.
Requirements
- At least a master's degree and preferably a PhD in economics or closely related areas.
- Professional experience in quantitative and econometric analysis is preferred.
- Familiarity with economic and development issues of relevance to Asia and the Pacific.
- Hands-on knowledge of accessible economic and financial databases.
- Strong quantitative skills in econometrics and statistics, such as competence in conducting time series and panel data analysis, and familiarity with statistical packages, such as STATA, E-Views, Matlab, or R. Some background in coding is a great plus.
- At least two years of research experience (post-graduate research is applicable), including drafting publishable papers, conducting literature reviews, data compilation, and analysis
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Appointment Terms
Research Associates serve for limited terms as independent contractors in a personal capacity, with an initial one-year contract and a possible one-year extension based on performance. The maximum duration of service is two years in total. Social insurance is not provided. Research Associates are neither officers nor staff of ADBI and work under the direct supervision of ADBI professional staff and the overall guidance of the Vice Chairs of Research.
