ContextLebanon is undertaking a research initiative to address the environmental challenges associated with the use of petroleum coke (Petcoke) in Lebanonโs cement industry. Petcoke, while a low-cost fuel source, is associated with significant environmental and health impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and potential harm to ecosystems and communities. The outcome of this research will contribute to national strategies aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the cement industry, supporting Lebanonโs just transition, and aligning industrial practices with climate change mitigation goals.
Task DescriptionWe are looking for 1 Online Volunteer who has experience in research, petrochemistry with excellent writing skills. The task will include the following responsibilities: - Investigate and summarize the environmental implications of Petcoke use in cement production. - Identify and assess alternative fuels suitable for Lebanonโs cement sector, including a competitive evaluation to determine the most viable and cost-effective option. - Develop a phased plan for the gradual phase-out of Petcoke, taking into account Lebanonโs national context, economic realities, and industry readiness. By the end of the assignment, the volunteer is expected to produce a comprehensive written report summarizing the findings and recommendations, and to present these in a PowerPoint format to the project manager.
