Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind. The Subregional Office for West Africa (SFW) is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed-upon strategies and projects for transforming agrifood systems and rural development. It also develops and maintains relations with subregion-wide institutions including Regional Economic Integration Organizations such as ECOWAS, CILSS, UEMOA and Mano River Union. It assists the FAO Country Representations (FAORs) in the sub region with addressing subregional food security, agriculture, and rural development issues at country level. The Subregional Office is a subsidiary of FAOโs Regional Office for Africa.
The FAO Subregional Office for West Africa (SFW) supports Members and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to deliver transformative agrifood systems outcomes across the Four Bettersโbetter production, better nutrition, better environment, and better life. SFWโs reporting must synthesize planned and achieved results, making them strategically relevant, evidence-based, and communicable across FAO corporate products and partner platforms.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the Sub Regional Coordinator and in collaboration with the M&E Officers (in charge of indicators tracking, surveys, data collection and analysis) in SFW, and in close coordination with the Members of the Multidisciplinary team, the Reporting Specialist will undertake the following activities:
Technical Focus
To lead integrated results reporting for SFW by structuring evidence collection, assuring quality of narratives and metrics, and delivering clear, strategic writing that maps SFW achievements and lessons to FAOโs Four Betters and Programme Priority Areas (PPAs). The role involves producing high quality analytical reports from project data, emphasizing accomplishments, obstacles, and suggestions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and complying with donor and Government regulations. This position demands vigilance in staying informed about donor and Government compliance rules to meet donor expectations consistently.
Tasks and responsibilities
โข ย ย ย ย Coordinate SFW contributions to FAO-wide reporting products (PIR, MTR, FAWR, CAR, RSR, PBR Memo).
โข ย ย ย ย Use PIRES and FPMIS Advanced Reports to extract delivery data and ensure consistency.
โข ย ย ย ย Serve as rapporteur for PTF sessions and draft minutes and action trackers.
โข ย ย ย ย Produce concise, compelling narratives mapped to the Four Betters.
โข ย ย ย ย Maintain SFW results registers and dashboards; configure FPMIS/PIRES queries.
โข ย ย ย ย Provide analytical and technical inputs in the review and finalization of proposals drafted by technical teams
โข ย ย ย ย Maintain an up-to-date tracking list of progress and final reports for FAO projects and ensure the timely clearance of draft project (progress and final) reports.
โข ย ย ย ย Inform project managers of when reports are coming due and follow-up to ensure reports are received in a timely manner;
โข ย ย ย ย Provide guidance and leadership to enhance the reporting system to ensure reliable, accurate and timely reporting at all levels and for all projects and programmes implemented by SFW.
โข ย ย ย ย Prepare SFW led project reports based on information provided by project technical and operations staff, finalize (interim and final) reports and briefs, and submit them for approval to SRC.
โข ย ย ย ย Provide critical inputs and analysis into draft reporting submitted from technical teams.
โข ย ย ย ย Review and edit reports and publications to ensure adherence to FAO Standards and Guidelines (see below).
โข ย ย ย ย Provide analytical and technical inputs in writing, proof reading and editing donor briefs and success stories.
โข ย ย ย ย Perform other related duties, as requested.
โข ย ย ย ย Coordinate with the communications teams on strategic aspects that need visibility support.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
โข ย ย ย ย Advanced university degree (Master) in public policy, economics, agriculture, development studies, M&E, communications or related field.
โข ย ย ย ย At least 5 years of relevant experience in results-based management/reporting within the UN or development sector.
โข ย ย ย ย Working knowledge of English and French is mandatory
