ContextThis Online Volunteering assignment supports the LHSP/LDSPโs infrastructure and engineering efforts to enhance service delivery in vulnerable communities. The volunteer will contribute remotely to technical documentation, design review, and research support related to mechanical infrastructure and renewable energy systems. This assignment helps strengthen the technical capacity of the Engineering Unit while enabling volunteers to contribute to real-world solutions in development and humanitarian contexts.
Task DescriptionThe online volunteers will support the project team in developing : 1. Design Review Participation Review and provide written technical feedback on four (4) mechanical design submittals. Prepare and submit one to two(1 to 2) technical presentations using PowerPoint or Canva based on design reviews, simulations, or technical findings. Submit detailed meeting notes from at least four (4) virtual technical meetings attended. 2. Coursework Integration Submit a 2โ3 page reflection report highlighting how tasks related to academic coursework and how theoretical knowledge was applied in practice. 3. Technical Tasks Complete a comprehensive research paper (5โ10 pages) on relevant mechanical components, systems, or materials (e.g., HVAC systems, energy efficiency, pumps). Submit five (5) updated or modified 2D/3D AutoCAD technical drawings, annotated and explained. Provide structured feedback on ten (10) design submittals (material or drawings), including conformity to standards and suggestions for improvement. 4. Documentation & Reporting Prepare or revise three (3) technical documents, such as BoQs, specifications, or system overviews. Translate and submit two (2) technical documents between Arabic and English, maintaining technical accuracy. 5. Data Entry & Analysis Organize and deliver a structured project data file (Excel or Google Sheets) including pricing, test results, and technical specs for three (3) projects. Create four (4) data visualizations (e.g., graphs, charts, summary tables) based on project datasets. 6. Technical Evaluation Support and submit in up to two (2) draft technical evaluation reports, including completed scoring matrices and summary comments. Review and comment on the bidder technical submissions (BoQs, datasheets), identifying compliance and highlighting technical strengths or gaps. Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head Unit of Engineering Unit or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Mechanical Engineer will perform the tasks outlined above.
