Mission and objectivesThe mandate of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999). The primary and overarching objectives of UNMIK are to ensure conditions for a peaceful and normal life for all inhabitants of Kosovo, strengthen and consolidate peace, security, and stability, and promote and protect human rights for all people.

Task DescriptionWithin the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Registered Nurse will undertake the following roles and responsibilities: Clinical Duties: Day-to-day clinical duties: checking the patientโs vital signs, giving medication, oral and injections, injecting vaccines, assisting doctors in wound dressing, and giving care as required. Respond to emergency calls and assist doctors in providing adequate care and performing respective duties in the treatment of the patient. Perform ECG, blood tests for glucose, malaria and Covid 19 antigen test. Prepare patients for different intervention and escort patients to other medical facilities as required. Organize for on call and other duties including weekends as required. Perform nursing care related to her/his professional capacity. Responsible for emergency room and doctorโs consultation rooms, ensure that all equipment is ready for use and functional e.g. defibrillator, ECG machine, glucometer, etc. Receives patients and records the necessary data for effective treatment. Ensures safety of the patients while performing the duties. Communicate with patients and update the doctors in the clinic. Provide support and cooperate with the forward medical team. Maintains patientโs records and exercises confidentiality. Maintain the tracking system by keeping the database updated. Perform other related duties as required. Medico-administrative responsibilities โข Maintain all Medical Unit records, computer entry of data in Earthmed. Performing duties related to requisitioning, receiving, storing and management of the Equipment and Inventories. Preparing memos for write-off, scrap, and donation. Prepare comprehensive reports and summaries as required. Assist in procuring medical items (medicines, COVID-19 tests, consumables)

Living conditions and remarksKosovo is a family duty station. Located in the Balkans mountain range of South Eastern Europe, the climate is continental, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Houses/Apartments are easily available and generally have electricity and running water, although this may not be 24hrs. Costs are reasonable, but vary according to location, i.e. city centre or outlying villages. Upon arrival, you will reside in a hotel or apartment until you get permanent housing. The UNV Support Office can assist in helping you identify suitable housing. There are not any specific health problems associated with Kosovo, and no vaccines are required prior to arrival. UNMIK provides a clinic for its staff, should anyone fall ill. Foods and dietary needs of all kinds are provided for in the many supermarkets. There are marketplaces that cater in fruits and vegetables, and bakeries offer some exquisite pastries and breads. Fresh fish and meats are also easily available.
