Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Trade Facilitation Section, the Trade Logistics Branch, the Division on Technology and Logistics, the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Public Information Officer reports to the Chief of the Trade Facilitation Section. ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Chief of the Trade Facilitation Section, the Public Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties: โข Ensures implementation of e-learning programs to publicize priority issues and/or major events, to include drafting information strategies, coordinating efforts, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome. โข Monitors and analyzes current events, new technologies and tools in e-learning and video editing, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on appropriate action/responses. โข Undertakes activities to promote online coverage (e.g. video creation, social media cards, press conferences, interviews and other special activities) of priority issues and/or major events, to include development of a media strategy and action plan, initiating pro-active online outreach efforts, disseminating materials and undertaking appropriate follow-up action and analyzing and reporting on the impact of initiatives. โข Conceptualizes and develops design proposals, which may include photographic, illustrative or more abstract graphic solutions. โข Produces and oversees production of information communications products (e.g. promotional texts, booklets, brochures, backgrounders, audio-visual materials, radio spot program, etc.), to include proposing topics, undertaking research, determining appropriate medium and target audience, preparing production plans, writing drafts, obtaining clearances and finalizing texts, editing copy, and coordinating design approval, printing procedures and distribution. โข Prepares, on the basis of official UN documentation and other sources, initial drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports and books. โข Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key constituencies. โข Acts as focal point on UNCTAD trade facilitation e-learning platform, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, etc. โข Participates in selecting the information transmitted to key constituencies. โข Provides guidance to, and may supervise, more junior staff. EducationAdvanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Job - Specific QualificationNot available. Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience producing and promoting multimedia e-Learning content is desirable. Experience in working in an international organization, such as within the United Nations System, is desirable. Experience creating digital campaigns preferably on issues related to trade and development and economics is desirable. Project management experience in digital marketing campaigns is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. Either French or Arabic or Chinese (Mandarin) or Spanish or Russian is desirable.
